GP2X TV output problems

I got myself one of those TV output cables for the GP2X recently, which has white and red audio and a S-video connection. The video would not play on any of the TV's in my house so I broght a S-video to Scart converter and now I can get video but the colours bleed a lot and everything looks rather pants, to be honest. Is there anyway to get any better image quality with this thing, or am I just wasting my time trying?

Never used one myself, but have been tempted to get one.
Do you have something else to try the adapter on?
It would be nice if you could eliminate that as the issue.
