Some Collecting Questions

Post by The Last Horseman »

I've been seeing more and more games that I want lately, and I'm starting to wonder what I'm going to do. I just don't have the money for all of them, and it's kinda hard to get my mom to buy any games for birthday/christmas. (Note my dad will not buy them)

I'm just wondering, what are ya'lls thoughts?

I want to get all my N64 games (A whopping ten or so I want) CIB, but I'm wondering if I'm going to be gouging myself on prices. Also, I want really good condition boxes, and I'm not sure how hard I will have to look for these.

Is there any way to stop creases in boxes? I mainly mean on the flap that you get the game out of. I only have one boxed game currently, and really don't want to hurt it. Is there anything I can do?

And then, I always have 'doubts'. I get a feeling, about every two months, that I don't do enough with the games I have, and that I need to get rid of some of them. I don't know how to overcome this, especially seeing as my Dad agrees with me getting rid of them all. I'm not sure what I should do here, this is my biggest problem.
Systems: Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, N64, Gamecube, Xbox 360

WTB: Boxes for a silver Gamecube System(and a hyperport cover), and a box for an Ice Blue N64 console. Will pay 7.50 for each and shipping.

Buy one of those plastic protective cases on ebay for like $3 and keep the box in it. Store the actual cartridge somewhere else so you don't have to open the box every time you want to play the game.

Ba-da-bing, no more damage do your box flaps.

I don't bother with the plastic thing, but yeah, keeping the cart in something besides the original box really helps to keep it nice.

Your going to pay a premium for sure on CIB stuff for N64, and if you want mint, that premium is going to be even higher.

Anything minty on the forum or ebay-buy now items are going to be very high because simply they will sell for that premium.

I hate to say - but your best bet for minty CIB N64 at a reasonable price is going to be ebay AUCTIONS (not buy now). Be patient, be annoying all that stuff - ask the seller for more pics if need be - its your money, know what you are getting.

Example:
Mario 64 loose cart - $10
Mario 64 CIB on the forum, or ebay buy now - $25-30
Mario 64 CIB / MINT Box/instructions - $35+

As for the creases - yeah, its gonna happen eventually, you can open and close it 50 times no problems and the 51st time it just catches on the edge flap and the center of the spine creases forever. If your a collector, get one copy for the shelf - MINT, and get a loose copy to play.

Well then would it even be worth trying to get these? I figurted I would because I didn't want that many, but....

I'm also wondering whether I should get the Collector's Edition of Skyrim or not, because it seems to expensive for what I get, but I'm a big fan of the series and have a feeling this might sell poorly because of the price, and then go up later. I don't know though.

From a collecting perspective, of course get what you want, get what your a fan of, get what looks good on your shelf, your call, ya know?

The nice thing is most items will maintain value, give or take...so you buy them CIB, decide they take up too much room, decide your more of a gamer than collector, whatever it is - you simply resell them or trade for something else you want.

In the end, your pretty much out the cost of shipping, thats it.

Yeah, like mjmjr said, there isn't too great a risk in buying collector's condition games, as they can usually be re-sold for close to what you paid, if not more.

Hmm. I'll keep looking, I can probably get a good deal somewhere. I personally have good luck with eBay auctions, so I guess I'll keep looking there. I figured hey, N64 isn't that old, boxed games won't go that high. I guess I was wrong.

So, still looking for more Opinions on that and the Skyrim issue.

One last thing, I want to Preorder the Zelda Skyward Sword edition with the controller, buuuut, I don't exactly have a Wii, or enough room to effectively play one, so.... I'm not sure if it is worth getting.

N64 is like any console - ANY console, the good stuff, which I assume is what you want, your going to pay a premium on, especially CIB.

You can get the junk (or simply not as popular stuff) for under $10 CIB, but I assume you aren't looking for FORSAKEN or DARK RIFT.

I have no idea on Skyrim.

A used wii is not going to set you back too far. Not enough room? The console takes up no room, the wiimotes are wireles, you only need about 8 square feet. If you don't have that - idk what to tell ya.

I could if I moved my room around some, but the only other way is if I get rid of my CRT, which is kinda a no no for retro gaming, so meh. I guess I'll get it and play it like ten years from now. :|
