so i just got a wii

Post by aaron »

i have played wii sports to death and am about an hour and a half into super paper mario. i'm really enjoying the system thus far. i was wondering if y'all could give me some good recommendations on games? i have warioware and zelda on the way (thanks coke!), but i was wondering about some of the lower profile games, which ones are worth checking out/purchasing? what can you folks tell me about Heatseeker, Swing Away Golf, Excite Truck, the EA sports games, Sonic & the Secret Rings, Rayman Raving Rabbits, etc?

i am thinking of picking up Metal Slug Anthology at some point. i have also heard good things about Alien Syndrome, Metroid Prime 3, and the upcoming Mercury Meltdown Revolution.

any thoughts/opinions/recommendations are welcome. word.

Excite Truck is a solid $30 game, not $50, I would wait until the price drops to that.
Super Swing is the step up from Wii Golf, but with a nice anime over tone. It is alot of fun, fairly balanced, and a solid game. I would say it is worth $50.
Metal Slug Anthology provides alot of oldschool fun, but it has alot of problems. For one most of the control schemes are horrendous, with the holding of the remote sideways and shaking to throw grenades being the best. But this may be fixed if that arcade stick is actually a gamecube controller.

The others I really cant give an opinion on, but I do love Kororinpa - it is like Marble Madness or the original Monkey Ball.

cool. swing away golf i was attracted to because of wii golf so that's good to know. can metal slug anthology be controlled conventionally any way? i may pick that up for ps2 if the controls on wii are really wonky. maybe i'll rent that one tomorrow.

Excite Truck was a lot of fun for me, but I agree that it's not really worth $50. Sonic and the Secret Rings isn't worth your time. Rayman was fun while it lasted, which wasn't long. Metal Slug Anthology I liked, especially since there are two control schemes that work fine, but it seems like a bit of a rip off to purchase.

I also recommend Resident Evil 4 (if you hanent played it to death already), Metroid Prime 3 -seriously, I don't even like metroid games, but this game is great; The graphics knocked me out (especially since it's on Wii) and the combination of FPS, Action Adventure, and a dash of platforming gives it something for everyone.

Sonic and the Secret Rings are a must if you like great graphics, and overall the game is solid despite some tricky controls.

Im at the last part of Metroid Prime 3, and its everything I hyped it up to be. I dont think I will ever be able to go back to twin sticks again in my life, and the game is very enjoyable even though I never played the first games in the prime series. Resident Evil 4 comes to mind, but i had never played it before the wii release, so you might not spend money on a game you already have.(If you have it that is.)

Rayman Raving Rabbids. Its basically mini-games galore, but its stylish, very funny, and quite inventive. Plus, some of the minigames are fairly substantial -- the rail shooter bit and the dancing stages come instantly to mind.

Super Monkey Ball makes good use of the Wii controller. It is just one more iteration of the same thing, but the control scheme is definitely more enjoyable.

Resident Evil 4, as a cheap title, is a bargain and good fun.

Metroid Corruption. I think this illustrates that shooters are excellent Wii material. Really, almost any game that would work well with a light gun or mouse would probably do well with the Wii. Its a gentle shooter, not very challenging, and the story is pre-adolescent sci-fi, but its still fun.

RE4, Metriod Prime 3, Trauma Center, are all worth current retail prices (if you are open to the idea of retail at all, that is).

I played RE4 on GC for 3 hours and got rid of it. I played it on Wii, well still am, going on 50 hours. (Original control style is available however by attaching the classic controller.)

And yes, the Gamecube controller is the only way to go for Metal Slug Anthology. It will also be a choice (arguably the better) for Super Smash Bros Brawl later, so go ahead and grab one or two now and you will be set to play GC games as well.

Im hooked with mario strikers charged and they even fixed the online play. Elebits is really fun despite the rumors. Dont get red steel thats just deserves a rental. The prince of persia rival swords is the same as two thrones but it feels a lot better with the wii remote.

Rumor has it that Mario Kart Wii with support 16 players online :)
Still a rumor though....

Wario Ware looks cool on the Wii.
Cooking Mama might be worth a rent as well.
