HDMI Lag?
I have Onkyo HT-SR800 surround sound system (HT-R550 Receiver) with 2 HDMI ports in.
I currently have my Uverse HDMI going into my receiver then an HDMI out going to my TV. Both my TV and receiver have 2 HDMI ports so I could plug the PS3 into either.
Do you think there will be lag if I plug my new PS3 into the receiver's 2nd HDMI port instead of directly to the TV?
I ask this because I do not want to take my TV off the wall unless I have to. Its kinda heavy and all.

Re: HDMI Lag?
It would be very little, if even noticeable. I've always played one hooked up like that on my friends TV, and I've never noticed any type of lag. Might ask CRT just in case though.
Systems: Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, N64, Gamecube, Xbox 360
WTB: Boxes for a silver Gamecube System(and a hyperport cover), and a box for an Ice Blue N64 console. Will pay 7.50 for each and shipping.

Re: HDMI Lag?
There shouldn't be any lag once its synced up. It does take longer to sync things up initially. Any lag you may notice is most likely in TV processing time. Plasmas are better with this than LCDs.
Re: HDMI Lag?
The HD Digital signal shouldn't have any lag issues since the source is HD. You run into lag problems or dot crawl when upscaling a 480i signal on a LCD. A direct to HDTV plug in is better, not because of the lag concerns. Just the convenience of not having to turn on the receiver every time you play a game.SpaceBooger wrote:I have Onkyo HT-SR800 surround sound system (HT-R550 Receiver) with 2 HDMI ports in.

Shouldn't the receiver get the signal from the HD instead? This way you can control all the inputs with your HDTV remote.

Re: HDMI Lag?
No you should go through the receiver first. Then output the video to the TV. You want the receiver to decode soundtracks, it won't be able to do so if he goes through the TV, as the TV will downcovert it to either stereo or Dolby Digital. Besides even if he did this way, he would still have to turn on both devices every time he plays a game if he wants sound. If does what you're suggesting he'll have lower audio quality overall, and no DTS, DTS HD, Dolby TrueHD, or LPCM.CRTGAMER wrote:The HD Digital signal shouldn't have any lag issues since the source is HD. If you want to be able to control all inputs with one remote you can get a harmony remote. There's even some models that can also have a bluetooth mode so they can control traditional IR devices as well as the PS3.
Re: HDMI Lag?
I have my PS3 hooked up to my receiver and then to the TV and have no issues. Also if you're worried about the sound being off, most receivers have adjustable delay to sync sound with picture if you need to.SpaceBooger wrote:I have Onkyo HT-SR800 surround sound system (HT-R550 Receiver) with 2 HDMI ports in.

Re: HDMI Lag?
Thanks guys all of this helps a lot.
We use the receiver as our AV source since it's our sound system too. The receiver has the Uverse HD connected to the "TV/VCR" PS3 to the "DVD" Wii to the "Cable Satellite" this way we don't have to change any settings on the TV (other than using the Dreamcast via VGA) and just press the button on the receiver.
Well the PS3 just arrived. I will set it up later this eve and enjoy then.
Thanks guys.

Re: HDMI Lag?
Actually HDMI sources have the capability to do that themselves. Of course you can still manually adjust the timing of the audio.Stark wrote:I have my PS3 hooked up to my receiver and then to the TV and have no issues. That's interesting, did not know that.Jamisonia wrote:Actually HDMI sources have the capability to do that themselves. Of course you can still manually adjust the timing of the audio.

Re: HDMI Lag?
Idk that all HDMI sources can do so, but many of them have some sort of setting. My Pioneer has auto delay and sound delay. Auto delay allows it to decide how to sync up the audio and video, but honestly I don't use it, and have found it necessary. Usually properly calibrating your distance and volume usually does it.Stark wrote:That's interesting, did not know that.Jamisonia wrote:Actually HDMI sources have the capability to do that themselves.
