Buying Used Current Gen. Consoles

Post by SpaceBooger »

I was thinking about getting a current gen console, but have limited funds. The amount of money I have isn't enough to buy a new PS3 (would rather have) and used are closer to my price range.
I know some of you will say just "pay extra" for the new one, but I don't have extra... I have a limited amount that will not be changing any time soon and would love to get a newer console with ample HD storage and a game or two for less than $200.

I was wondering how reliable are used current gen consoles, would it be better to not get my hopes up and use the gift card credit for retro and Wii games?

I bought both of my PS3's used. I just made sure the sellers were reliable -- one I got from eBay after reading TONS of feedback on various users. The guy I chose to guy with had multiple feedbacks that actually used the word "honest," which meant a lot to me. The second PS3 I got was from eStarland -- they are rigorous in their testing of product, and getting something used from them often means it will be up to the standards of a new product.

Thanks... but now I have a new question: Why did you have to buy two?

He's going after this guy. After he reaches that pinnacle, he's got more to reach for.

LOL.

the tl;dr version is simply: I wanted one for the living room and one for the bedroom, and they were cheap enough that I could actually do that. Do you need a longer version of the story? :)

EDIT: @irixith

SB, don't you already own a Wii? I'd stick with that and wait till the other consoles get cheaper.

I'd get a PS3 if I were you SB. Then you could join a lot of us online!

I have a Wii, which I enjoy, but would love a PS3 (the selling point for the wife would be the Blueray) but I only have paypal saved to spend and its not enough for a new system, but almost enough for a used one at GameStop... that is my problem. Do I buy used or just continue to get games for the Wii and be happy or get a current gen console...

As for meeting you guys online, anything connected to the main tv is easier to play more often since Ill still be spending time with my wife while she reads as opposed to me playing the PC or retro stuff in the basement.

We don't have much extra money at the moment with three kids and my income being the only source of funds. So what I make selling games and such is all I get to spend. I don't want to buy a used console only to have it die quickly before I have time to buy and beat some games for it.
So that's the purpose of this thread - I'm on the fence.

do what I did -- trade things into eStarland to make up the balance of the paypal $ you have to spend. It's really easy.

I bought my ps2 used (late model fat 40gb) from gamecrazy (RIP) like 2 years ago and its been fine. If we were talking about a 360 it would be a different story, I have been through like 3 of them lol.
