yeesh. 3rd party controllers. ive always tried avoiding these things like the plague. i mean back in the day no one was really too sure. they always had neat gimmicks and looked cooler than the plain old controllers you already had. god damnit these things are balls. i dont have any modern day consoles but i think this pic represents well enough for everyone to understand where im coming from. that big black joy stick in the middle on top is for the atari 2600. its huge, its stupid. its got fucking suction cups on the bottom of it. it sticks to everything. everything. theres 2 buttons, i dont know what for. they work for shit. both of them dont even add up to one. the handle is so tall that it renders less responsive. one cool thing they tried doing with this was the cord retracts into the controller. you spin the handle 360 degrees and it winds up. moving on to the next generation of 3rd party dicks. that big stupid ball thing, yeah thats an NES controller. The Quick Shot. Patent pending… not surprised. that atari stick was also a patent pending piss pile. this also has suction cups on it. but it makes sense cause you need it. u gota really crank on that ball to get it to do what you want. you can toggle between right and left handed use with a switch on the side. theres also a turbo switch. from like 86 till 2004 i sware they alllllllll had the turbo options. i can think of 2 games ever where it actually came in handy. to the right that wireless thing with a missing button is a wireless NES controller by AccLAIM. i can remember vividly 2 times it actually working. i one played mario from the bathroom. taking a shit with the door open. my dads idea. another time i played 2 feet from the tv ,unnecessitating the wireless feature. turbo buttons and switches. ate the god damn out of batteries. the sensor you had to plug in would never stay straight ahead. i remember putting books on top of it and it would still just slide. wheres the fucking suction cups you butt fucks???? moving on to the right with the fun colors and clear casing is a SNES controller. this one was actually really awesome. but it broke in a matter of months. thats another thing bout these 3rd party controllers, they cant take a beating like the real ones. to the left a Sega Genesis turbo shit ball that i thought was a super nintendo controller. its not bad. just stiff. lol stiff. it was cool for street fighter 2 when i had that. above is that green clear ps2 abomination. its got the turbos. its got the bulky body. its got grippy rubber on the under side of the handles. its a mad catz. thats like the most famous 3rd party controller creater ever. if its a knock off piece of shit for any console past the 16 bit era chances are those assholes made it. lastly that big stupid thing is not an XBOX controller although it might as well be. its for the Dreamcast. its not bad. really. the only crappy thing is the triggers. but they still didnt get it right so its a bitch.
a friend of mine seemed to only have these shity 3rd party controllers for every system hes ever had. but most people would get these things and give them to their friends to use when they came over. its almost not even worth playing. its like bringing a pointed stick to a gun fight. you should just go home.
i was offered to play a game recently on 360, my friend handed me a mad catz. i said “fuck that”

Re: 3rd party controlers
That SNES SN ProPad was and still is one of the best third party controllers out there. Only downside was the short controller cord...

In general, I do agree with your thoughts on 3rd party controllers although there are some good ones out there (e.g, Hori controllers).

Re: 3rd party controlers
Where do Madcatz's woeful reputation come from? Did they do some dodgy stuff on the bigger consoles? Some of the best pads and sticks I've owned come from them.
That Astro Pad you've pictured for the Dreamcast, one of the worst controllers on the
face of the earth, really. The triggers have noticeable lag, generally around three quarters of a second to a full one and the d-pad gives the Gamecube's a big-dick complex.

AAAHHHHHH wall of text
Anyhow, I agree I tend not to like the feel of the 3rd party pads at all. I do wonder if thats just because i'm more familiar with the official ones though.

Re: 3rd party controlers
I prefer first party for reliability, but I also enjoy the features of 3rd party controllers. The various Arcade sticks such as the Blaze Dual Shock or playing Alien Hominid with programmable Rapid Fire for example. Say, are there any first part controllers that included auto fire?
EDIT
After rereading the OP, there is one 1st party controller I hate. The 2600, although it is a classic, I'll take a Wico any day.

the small 6 button controller that came with the Genesis 3 did I think.
Re: 3rd party controlers
TurboGrafx/PC Engine controllers have auto fire.
Useful for shmups and such.

Re: 3rd party controlers
I've always been a fan of the Beeshu Zipper nes controllers. Kinda remind me of famicom carts.
