Official Racketboy PS2 online meetup thread!

Post by noiseredux »

So for some reason I started thinking about PS2 games that could go online. I decided to start researching which ones might still have their servers online, and I found a pretty awesome site: http://www.ps2onlinegaming.com/ which is apparently still pretty active. I also did some poking around elsewhere and found that it was quite possible for me to take my PS2 games online even using my 60GB PS3. Considering how many of us have large collections of PS2 games, I thought it'd be fun to organize an informative thread outlining the process of getting online, and which games are still online so that we can all try to play some last-gen games together live.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Getting Online

If you're playing with a fat PS2, then you obviously need the Network Adapter. Here's the GameStop link: http://www.gamestop.com/ps2/accessories ... pter/20463 ...$15 isn't too bad. Just do a local zipcode search.

If you're playing with a slim PS2 or a backwards compatible PS3, then you're all set. The Network Adapter is built into the slim PS2, and the PS3 will just use your PS3's wi-fi or ethernet.

Whether you're using a PS2 or backward compatible PS3 you need to save a network setup profile to your PS2 (or virtual) memory card. To do so you can use the official Network Setup Disc that came with the PS2 Network Adapter, or there are quite a few games that have a network setup utility as a feature on them.

PS2 Games That Include Network Setup Utility*

*I snatched this list from the link above, but it's not complete. For instance, I found the setup utility on my copy of Madden 2005 Collector's Edition, so I added it to the list myself. If you find other games that have this utility, please let us know so I can add it. Worst case scenario, someone might need to find a cheap used 99 cent game from this list to setup their network settings.

The list here is condensed from a larger list from Wikipedia that mentions every game with online capabilities, including ones that are offline. However, if you happen to find that a game NOT listed here still has its servers up, PLEASE let us know! It's also possible that some of these games are now offline, so update us on that as well.

Personally, I haven't set this up yet myself, but link with info/download is here: http://www.teamxlink.co.uk/?go=games

I think XIII is the only one I have, but would look into others if there's interest in Racketeers playing online.

I have Cold Winter and I have the 360 version of FFXI. I heard that Urban Chaos's online mode was awesome so I might get that.

plug the ethernet into yr slim PS2, and then use one of the Network Startup games I mentioned in the OP to get the internet connection setup.

boy this thread died a quick death. Was just thinking about it though and curious (again) how many of you have interest in getting some of these games working online for Racketeer e-meetups.
