x64 driver for the infamous SmartJoy USB adapter?

Post by Lodestar »

I'm sure some of you remember Lik-Sang and how it was shut down by Sony a few years back. I bought a USB adapter from them and it still works, but the software is only compatible with XP and some previous iterations of Windows. Does anyone know if there are Vista or Windows 7 drivers for this adapter? Otherwise, I won't be able to use it - or if it recognizes it as a generic controller, I lose pressure sensitivity and rumble support.

got a pic of the model you're talking about? I have a SmartJoy that auto-installed its own drivers as soon as I plugged it into my Win7 PC and it works with no problem for PS2 controllers.

Just the basic single slot one.

that's the exact one I have. I plugged it into the USB on my PC and Win7 found new hardware, installed drivers, and it worked. I did nothing.

You shouldn't need any additional software, it should install automatically as a USB HID. I believe they used to recommend that you plug it in for the first time by itself (i.e. with no controller plugged in), but it seems to work fine either way.

Does it still support rumble?

In my experience, no. On the other hand, if I want a rumble pad, I can do better than a DualShock and a USB adaptor. To me, adaptors like this are primarily useful for quirky specialty controllers, few of which support rumble in the first place.

Windows 7 is all the good of XP and Vista with none of the bad, you shouldnt have any backwards compatible problems.

I wouldn't know about that. HID is HID. I can use mine just fine (without rumble) in Linux.
