SNES w/ Distorted Colors

Post by Mechblue »

I got a snes that seems to have some distorted colors. Doesn't seem to matter if you use the R/F or A/V and different TV didn't matter either.

The colors are streaking to the right and looks like an Andy Warhol painting.

Any ideas what might be causing this or if it is repairable?

Try a different game? I've had a similar problem with one of my games on a Game Cube Game boy player.

It is all games. These games work perfectly on other SNES systems. In this case it is the system with the issue. I believe its some sort of video failure with the Green, as it appears to be bleeding over to the right. Like everything that has green is casting a long green shadow to the right.

That is trippy. Maybe make it into an art project if you can't fix it. :?

I figured it was a faliure in the hardware. I think i'm going to be scrapping my broken SNES systems.

So I'm going to have a lot of scrap parts sitting around.

Any obvious damage to anything on the board?

No, none. I've seen some that looked like they were drowned in liquid that function fine. This one had no indication of damage at all. Looked all over and it all looked fine.

My best guess is straight up hardware failure. :(

How are you connecting? S-video or composite? Check the board real close for capacitor damage, Its not always apparent in just a cursory glance. Electrolytic capacitors should have flat top. If a top is bulging at all then its bad. I don't know of a way to check other capacitors without a special type of multimeter.
