Tonight was the inaugural livestream of the new RacketBoy LIVE channel and it was a huge success. Thanks to everyone who came into the chat like Noiseredux, ninjainspandex, dsheinem and RacketBoy himself. The chat stayed active through the whole two and half hour stream and there were plenty of suggestions with which I could embarrass myself like Super Back to the Future Part 2, Duck Tales 2 and Hagane.
In fact it was such a success that the livestream channel is becoming a permanent fixture in the RB community. It started out as just a channel to stream live video games, but after chatting with Racket we realized how much more we could do with it. Outside of regular streams the staff (and you, but I'll get to that in a minute) will be hosting, I'm loading the autopilot with lots of nifty retro gaming related TV shows, movies and music. So even when we're not broadcasting you guys can chill in the chatroom and check out some sweet media like the Super Mario Bros. Super Show, Icons and Talking Classics.
As for the gaming streams themselves, I want them to be a major part of the RB community in the future. So major in fact that I'm including you guys directly. Each week (or month, we'll figure that out) someone will host a stream of a game or games fitting into a certain theme or topic. Tonight's loose theme was underrated platformers, but it was a very loose theme. I was just loading ROMs willy nilly and playing whatever people in the chat wanted to see. In the future it will be much more structured. How does this involve you? Why, you can stream with us! This thread will be for discussing the channel and making suggestions, but you may also apply to be one of our broadcasters. Just leave a reply in this thread with what you'd like to stream. It can be a full game, sections of different games that follow a theme or you can do a whole game series. Time is not a factor. If you want to do a 70 hour RPG and have the time to stream the whole thing, we can split it up and give you a slot twice a week until the game is completed. Someone may want to stream Mega Man 1-10, if you can pull it off I'll schedule it.
The channel can also be used for live podcasts, community meetups and displaying your own content you made yourself, as long as we approve it. Think of it as our own TV station and you're all on staff.
So what do you want to see? What did you like about our first stream? Do you think you could handle your own segment on the channel?
Just leave us a comment with what you'd like to show, why you'd like to show it and when you'd ideally want to stream. If we like it and it's RB related, you get to do it.
What you'll need to stream games:
-Access to the channel. I have to add you as a broadcaster, hence the application process.
-A way to play the game. Whether it be a ROM or capture device, you need to actually play it to stream it.
-Procaster and a LiveStream account. This is a program Livestream uses to stream directly from your desktop. If it's a video file it can also be uploaded directly to the channel library. This is how we show TV shows and movies.
-The time and commitment. Don't say you'll stream Persona and quit 10 hours in.
-Reason. Usually "cuz it's fun" is good enough reason to stream a game, but still try to justify why you picked that title to stream.
And like I said, the possibilities for streaming are endless. We'll be showing anything and everything related to classic gaming. Hopefully with some time it'll build up enough of an autopilot that you can come in several times a week and never see the same thing twice. If we all contribute, RacketBoy TV could be a major part of the site and its awesome community.
Use the hashtag #RBTV when tweeting about the channel.

Could there be a possibility of some kind of thing between Racketboy and my site, where we do a Pokemon roundtable every week and it's posted on both sites?

That's an interesting idea. I know a few of our community members have their own podcasts and I'd love to have them be a part of RBTV. It wouldn't necessarily be "posted" anywhere as I don't think we're saving any of the live content streamed on the channel. But you could advertise it on your site as a live event on RBTV and give us some station ID during your show. Shoot me an email at [email protected] with your show, what you'd like to do with it and where I can find old episodes.YoshiEgg25 wrote:Could there be a possibility of some kind of thing between Racketboy and my site, where we do a Pokemon roundtable every week and it's posted on both sites?

YES, I will be streaming in a little bit. Taking requests! We had such a blast last night that I had to do it again tonight.Hazerd wrote:streaming is live right now, comon in guys!
Until that starts we're playing whatever's in the library including Keith Apicary, AVGN, music videos and old video game commercials.

It'd be neat to see streams from actual consoles via a TV tuner card.

Re: The Official Racketboy Community Stream Topic
Im thinking a streaming MAME "High Score Contest" where we pick a game for a set amount of time and people participate by streaming and what ever their best streaming score is counts. These streams would be cool to replay or even edit into a segment that can replay often.
Once you get more info about other streaming stuff I would be interested in streaming some comic related games since the conversation could be both comic and gaming related. I would enjoy that.
