$99 3DS
I just saw in my email that Gamestop is selling 3DSs for $99 with a trade-in. Unfortunately, I didn't see the details. I noticed it in the headline of my email as I was deleting it, I usually don't pay attention to it. I just wanted to bring it to people's attention.

Re: $99 3DS
For anyone considering doing this, it's not worth it. The 3DS is going to retail for $169 later this month.
I wish Nintendo would reduce the price of the DSi XL already, having it close to the same price of the price dropped 3DS makes no sense (Nintendo has no plans to reduce its price along with the 3DS).
Consider that a DS Lite sells for $100 new, trading one in and adding $99 for something that's going to be $169 soon is only beneficial to GameStop.
***One other thing, you have to also be a GameStop PowerUp Member Pro.

They kept the XL the same price probably because they want people to choose a 3DS over an XL. If the XL was cheaper people would probably opt for the XL.

Actually that starts today - and this trade in deal is for this weekend (and it's off the $169). The $99 price is only if you trade in a XL though.Lodestar wrote:For anyone considering doing this, it's not worth it. The 3DS is going to retail for $169 later this month.

Re: $99 3DS
I read that you could trade in any of the DS iterations. If it's really XL only like you say, then hardly anyone is eligible for this poor deal.
So, the XL is about 120-150, add 99 USD to that and you get a 3DS worth 169 USD - and there is the other prerequisite, too. GameStop must think people are retarded enough to fall for this marketing ploy.

I figured this as well. It still doesn't make much sense to me, they're already selling DS handhelds at an inflated price that hasn't changed much at all over the many years it's been on sale. I know there are other people like me who want an XL, not a 3DS, but are waiting patiently for a price drop - no one wants to play DS games on a 3DS with the upscaled/blurry display and a fraction of the battery life. They kept the XL the same price probably because they want people to choose a 3DS over an XL. It's silly when you think about it, think about how the PS2 helped pull Sony out of the water when the PS3 had a rough start. The PS2s were moving more units each quarter for a while.
The DS is widely popular still, I don't think it's wise for Nintendo to not drop the price of the DSi and XL, too.

Re: $99 3DS
I think gamestop is doing this to load up on consoles for the holidays.
Some people are still comfortable with their DS lites, and If gamstop resells them, they are gonna tack on the extended/replacement warranty. More money in their pockets.
Gamestop and many stores are taking trade-ins are giving you bonus money for the item traded in.
The store gets more stock for the holidays and you get to spend more with them.
So yeah, Gamestop is gonna lose some money on the traded in ds and such. But the money made on the games will recoup some of that money.
Games make the profit, not the console itself

Re: $99 3DS
Does anyone think this deal would be worth it if someone traded in a first generation DS?
I'm one of those poor asses who have so little money, I've stuck with the ugly gray brick since it came out. Looking at how old it is, it makes me wonder if I can maximize value by trading it in for the 3DS.
Still doesn't seem like a good deal to my anyhow, but what do you guys think?
