Some Sega Saturn Swap Trick Questions

Post by ReddMcKnight »

(Take note that I am using a Model 1 JP Saturn)

1. What's the best kind of tape to tape down the CD Door Button?
2. How long will the Saturn last before the Swap Trick damages it?
3. Does shutting the CD Door after the trick is performed help keep the button in place at all?

Forcibly stopping any motor is hard on it, so if it is trying to spin for this swap trick, you are hurting it every time.

It is possible to mod the system so you don't have to forcibly stop the motor. I think that I heard of people wiring a switch to the motor's power so you can stop it that way before you swap, so at least you're not straining it when it's trying to spin. But if you're gonna go through that trouble, might as well install a mod chip instead.

I would suggest investing into a modchip; it's just so much simpler that way.

1. What's the best kind of tape to tape down the CD Door Button?

when i did it for a short period before i modded it i used electrical tape.

2. How long will the Saturn last before the Swap Trick damages it?

Less than a year if you play it pretty frequent with the swap method.

3. Does shutting the CD Door after the trick is performed help keep the button in place at all?

My friend's JP Saturn has been unmodded (it's a model that it's difficult to find a modchip for) for years and he plays it pretty frequently using the swap trick. Once you get the timing down, you don't actually stop the motor wile it's powered, only free spinning. It's never had any problem loading burnt backups, and doesn't show any signs of it. I personally beat many games on it before I gave it to him over 8 years ago, and he plays it more than I ever did. IIRC I used some thick cardboard jammed into the button area, but that was a long time ago.

This is awesome: http://www.dforce3000.de/?p=news&t=sega

This dude hacked the BIOS and removed the region check, so you can boot any region without any mods or carts. He also removed the authenticity check for CDs, but CD-Rs still wont boot. We'll have to keep an eye on this, if some one can hack the BIOS to boot CD-Rs this will be amazing.

I got my modchip from racketboy here. It was a really easy install. All you have to do is insert it in the cd ribbon slot and solder two wires to a portion of the power unit.

very easy install

It uses the JPN BIOS.
I been doing install for member from several forums.
Everyone seem to love not having to use switches or carts to play imports.
