My new master system!

Post by sega dude »

I just got a SMS from ebay for 35 dollars including shipping. It comes with a controller, the light phaser, the 3D adaptor and the ac adaptor. No games but I do have one game, Great Golf. No rf adaptor or av cable either but ill just use the RF adaptor from my genesis. I have some questions about it.

1. Is there anything I can do with the 3d adaptor without the 3d glasses?

2. What games to you recommend?
My Systems: Sega Master System Model 1,Sega Genesis Model 1, Sega Genesis Model 2, Sega CD Model 2, Sega Saturn Model 2, Sega Dreamcast, Sega Pico, Game Boy Pocket, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance SP (x2), DS Lite, DSi, 2DS, 3DS (x2), Wii (White), PS2 Slim, PS3 Phat, PS3 Slim, Xbox 360 Phat, Xbox One, NES, SNES

Holy crap, that's an awesome deal!

Nope.

I personally recommend (in no particular order) Sonic Chaos, TransBot, Action Fighter, Zillion, Black Belt, Psycho Fox, and Golden Axe Warrior. Others are likely to recommend Phantasy Star and the Wonder Boy and Alex Kid games, along with a bunch of arcade ports that were great at the time, but have long since been outclassed by ports on later consoles: Space Harrier, Double Dragon, Bad Dudes, Fantasy Zone, Shinobi, Alien Syndrome, etc.

You can use the Famicom 3d glasses with it if I remember right. However I've never even seen a pair so I guess you're out of luck.
Mostly harmless

If those work, then the older wired-style active shutter glasses for PCs might work too. Expensive though.

turn on your master system with no game in it!

It may have a game already built in!

early versions had a cheezy maze game.

later versions have other, better games! Mine has Hang-on!

Mine has Hang-On and Safari Hunt
...which sucked for awhile, because I didn't get the Phazer with it. Fixed that now though! :D

Mine has Alex Kidd in Miracle World built in :)

Anyhow, as for game recommendations -

All of the Wonder Boy games are the systems real must-haves imo, especially Wonder Boy III.

Other good games that I own and can recommend:
Castle of Illusion
Phantasy Star
Penguin Land
Lucky Dime Caper
Asterix and the Secret Mission
Fantasy Zone
Sonic the Hedgehog.

Here's a whole bunch of other Master System games that are meant to be pretty good though:
Alex Kidd in Shinobi World
Shinobi
Deep Duck Trouble
Fantasy Zone 2
Golvellius
Land of Illusion
Ninja Gaiden
Power Strike 1 & 2
Psycho Fox
R Type
Master of Darkness
Ys
Bubble Bobble
Marble Madness
Ghouls n Ghosts
Golden Axe Warrior
Rescue Mission
Sagaia
The Ninja

Plenty of good stuff to choose from!

Astro Warrior is a decent shmup. I think it came built-in on some models, so it might be on yours. Choplifter and Aleste/Power Strike are great.

Psychic World is also a cool platformer to get.
