Shenmue II import question.
I'm about to pick up both Shenmue games. I only want to play the second on Dreamcast. I've read every thread I could find here on Racketboy but still have some questions. I assume I'd have to mod my console or use a boot disc to play a PAL copy, but according to this thread an older console on a newer TV should have no problem booting the game. Is any of that true? If not, will a Japanese copy boot up and support English subtitles? Any help to get this working as easily as possible is greatly appreciated.
Re: Shenmue II import question.

If I remember correctly, the Japanese version has no English subtitles.

THIS. The PAL version is the one to get. Japanese dialog with English subtitles, I think the Japanese voices adds to the mood of the game. PAL Shenmue works fine with a NTSC Dreamcast with DC-X.Breetai wrote:If I remember correctly, the Japanese version has no English subtitles.

I'm not sure of the exact model, but it's a 22" Vizio, about a year old.
With the Japanese voices I just assumed it was that version. I'm really hoping it would work without any other modifications or purchases, but if not DC-X sounds like a nice solution.

Re: Shenmue II import question.
if you dont want to buy DC-X try utopia or some other boot disc.

The Reindeer disc only works on CDR non-booting discs. DC-X boots and converts PAL to NTSC. There was another disc that also did this, I think it was Action Reply?vlame wrote:if you dont want to buy DC-X try Utopia or some other boot disc.

bob_the_goon wrote:Utopia has always handled all of my import game needs. The most recent thing I bought was the European version of Shenmue 2 and my old Utopia disk (also at least 2 years old) handles that fine.

I was always under the impression that Utopia could boot legit foreign games, I've never tried this though so don't quote me on it.
