What controller do you use for shmups on the PC?

I've been trying out a few shmups on the PC, and I generally dislike using the keyboard as a method for control. I have a PSX to PC adapter and an ASCII fight stick that I've considered using, but that setup is a little clunky and I think my stick's starting to wear down a bit. I'm here to ask, what's your preference for controller on the PC when it comes to shmups? Do you think an arcade stick is the best choice?

I have two controllers I use for my PC: A wired 360 controller and the SF4 360 Fight Pad.
I used to use a PS2 controller via usb adapter, but with most games setup to use the 360 with matching button colors and such I use it.
As for modern shmups on the PC the 360's analog stick works for me.
For older games via MAME I have a Hanaho Hotrod Joystick in my MAME cab which works well but if you are just looking for a wired solution I would go with the 360 controller.

For simple shmups, I use my SNES controller.

I'll second the 360 Wired controller. It's really affordable and can be used for the 360 as well.

I use a Logitech dual analog stick. It works fine. I'd rather use a nice arcade joystick, but I don't own one for PC. I also have gotten used to using the keyboard since I usually just want to fire up a quick game on the laptop.

All shmups I play are through MAME, so I use my USB arcade stick:

I've actually found that I'm able to be quite precise using a keyboard.

Thats what I use, I bought it for MAME mostly, also works great for 360 fighting games.
