I just discovered JT's thread here asking if certain games had ever made you cry, so I figured i'd start one about films. It's kind of relevant for me since I just saw the most emotional film that I have ever seen.
I have never been a huge fan of anime but recently discovered the beauty of Studio Ghibli films. My ex-gf wanted me to watch Howl's Moving Castle so I did, and absolutely loved it. That kind of sparked my interest in the Ghibli films so I decided to watch more. So I watched Ponyo which again was incredible. After that I decided to watch Princess Mononoke and was absolutely amazed by everything in that film, easily my favourite Ghibli film i've seen thus far. Then I decided to watch the one that is most relevant to this topic: Grave of the Fireflies.
I started watching it knowing absolutely nothing about the film, just like I did with the other Ghibli movies i'd seen. Wow, let me just say I have never been one to cry for films but this one really struck a chord with me! It brought me to absolute tears and left me feeling really emotional for 2 days even after the film finished. I won't spoil a single thing for anyone. I can barely even look at pics from the movie or even the cover art of the dvd without feeling very emotional. I was really surprised that any piece of media was able to accomplish this level of emotion with me. It was indeed fantastic and one of my favourite movie experiences i've ever had. I recommend all of you to watch this beautiful film if you have not.
So that leads me to the point of this topic, have any of you ever watched a film that sincerely made you cry?
Has a film ever made you shed a tear?

Cried in laughter yes. Cried in sadness no. Guess I'm just heartless.

I haven't watched Grave yet. When I had roomates, one of them owned it and I started to watch it a few times, but knowing the theme of the movie I'd only get a few minutes in and decide that I really wasn't in the mood to watch it at that time.
Movies don't really get to me whether they're scary or sad because I know they aren't real. However I watched Dancer in the Dark while hanging out with a cute girl at one point (her suggestion). She was bawling at the end and between the movie and her being affected by it I was pretty damn misty at the end.

First time I saw Forest Gump I shed a tear and I was like 15. That movies just so damn beautiful! Seven Pounds and Inception I had to actually try not cry at the ending, so damn beautiful. And dont get me started on Iron Giant..... I guess I'm just emotional for movies lol.

I get misty eyed in movies frequently. Video games, not so much.
A few movies that got to me really intensely were Dancer in the Dark, Breaking the Waves, Leaving Las Vegas, Life is Beautiful, Betty Blue, One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest, and Black Swan.
I would like it if more games had the power to make me cry, but it's hard to put sad or depressing subject matter into a game that is supposed to be fun and have it taken seriously. Not that it can't be done, it's just an extra challenge.

Oh, and related to the initial topic post. Grave of the Fireflies made me cry too. It's a really powerful anime. I loved it enough that I bought a VHS copy back at a time before I had access to the internet and it was really hard to find that sort of thing. I don't even remember how I found it, I just know it was a bit of work. It's one of the better war movies out there, anime or not.

I have shed a tear in the following off the top of my head.
Band of Brothers
- The ending baseball scene when they are explaining what each man went on to do with there lives.
- The scene when Liebgott tells the Jewish prisoners of the camp they have to go back inside the camp
- The scene when the German Commander is addressing his troops with Liebgott translating.
- The scene when the young French boy salutes Winters in Paris.
The Pacific
- The scene where the American commander dies and is carried back behind there lines with all the soldiers looking on in disbelieve while still showing respect.
Saving Pvt Ryan, when the medic who is dying is calling out for his mother..
Reign Over Me, when Adam Sandler is explaining how his family died.

for me it was the early 90's movie Ghost, I saw it back on VHS back in the day and when you're a little kid becomming a teen, for some reason that got to me!
Another movie that made me sob a little, was the ending to the movie A.I. Artificial Intelligence When the robot kid sees his mom for the last time.
Oh and one more thing, I am man enough to admit that I have cried or shed tears in other movies too. So we shouldn't make fun of you for admitting things in this tread!
