Looks like my Saturn modchip is dead.

Post by flamepanther »

It came de-soldered from the IC chip (unfortunately I have the board that doesn't work by soldering points A and B together on the mod board) the last time I moved to a new house, and I haven't been able to get it working since then. The Saturn works fine with the chip removed. With the chip in place, the Saturn sees there's a disc, but it doesn't detect it as a Saturn game, even if it's an original disc from the correct region. It will report the correct number of audio tracks if there are any, but trying to play them yields only silence. I know the chip is getting power, because it heats up (is it supposed to do that?) I've de-soldered and re-soldered the signal link wire several times, and I know I can't have made a poor join each and every time. I guess I'll be ordering a new one from the store here soon... *SIGH*

Funny thing is, my chip used to work great! No I'm sitting on 80 burned CDs worth of awesome Saturn games and no way to play them :(

Mind you, my library of legit Saturn games is pretty solid. I just miss having access to the full library.

I'd suggest the consolegoods.co.uk modchip. I modded Lokkenjawz' Saturn with it and it booted up everything I threw at it. Previously I tried installing the Racketboy modchip and it was an exercise in frustration to say the least.

model 2 i assume? 64pin or 32pin IC on the cd drive? the 32's seem to be more friendly with the chips. The 64's you should change the 14/19 jumper setting. Either way I've always had a+b work at that point, though on 64pin you have to open/close the lid once during booting.

http://www.racketboy.com/forum/viewtopi ... 8&start=20 this post (scroll down a bit) has the adventures of me (finally) getting a 64 pin model 2 to work.

Need FreeMCboot? I'll install it on your PS2 Memory Card for free if you cover postage both ways.
Consoles: I have too much stuff
Arcade: No seriously, I have too much stuff. Someone grab a shovel and dig me out of my basement.

I believe they're all the same chip. There's only like 1 person still making these in the world.

If it's one from me -- just let me know and I'll let you trade it in for a new one.

Naw, I got mine eight or nine years ago from someplace else. Might order one of yours in the near future though. Thanks!
