Master System left doesn't work

Post by peachey777 »

Hey everyone. I have an issue with my Sega Master System where left on the d-pad does nothing. I have 2 controllers and I've tested both on my Genesis and they work just fine. All the pins on the controller port look fine and using a multimeter I've tested the pins connection to the board and that seems fine as well. Beyond that I have no idea what the issue could be. Any ideas?

Thanks

sounds like the pin isn't making contact, something like this happened to me with a genny 2, open it up and see if the pin is pushed in on the connector port of the system. get a flat screw driver and try to even out the pins by pushing the metal pin flush with the other 8.

pin 3 is your problem.

Unless is it just a funny different reflection, those pins on the righ tport in your picture look a little thinner than the others. Maybe try very carefully bending them all ever so slightly all one direction a little bit in case one or more of them are managing to float in the plug without making a good connection?

Sounds weird - but try turning on the system without a controller in the port and plug one in when it has already booted up.

I have one SMS console where the controllers will only work properly if the controllers are inserted after the system has booted - don't know why yet as I haven't had time to diagnose the issue.

Out of curiosity, what controller is being used and for what game(s).

Why I ask:
I think certain games, like Bomber Raid for example, doesn't work with Genesis controllers. I think it even behaves like you described (no left control).
...just another lost soul...

I tried bending the pins a little, moving the controller around in the port, I also tried Lost Monkey's suggestion. None of it seems to be working. I might try and find someone who could re-solder that pin to see if it helps. Otherwise I might just get another master system.

@nightrnr: The only game I own for it is Hang-On. I've tried using 2 different Master System controllers and a few Genesis controllers.
