this game is scary weird.
I can't quite figure out WHAT the heck is going on quite yet. I know I'm shooting weird spiky things, while dodging bullets and flowers. And that I'm some deformed legged "giraffe"?... what the heck? And the bonus stage? What is that? belch me up k now... dear God.
keep in mind... never played Tempest, sooooo... lost?

I'm having a real hard time with the demo. I'm a fan of Tempest, and most of Minters game dating back to the 8-bit lines. But this one -- its just too much psychedelic effects for the sake of psychedelic effects. I understand the gameplay and how it should work, but even with a crystal clear HDTV running at 1080i, I can't make out whats going on much of the time.

I have been reading all about this game the last week and now I really want to check it out. I'm absolutely fascinated by the love it/hate it divide in the reviews and on message boards. I'm drawn to works that people either seem to love or hate, no matter the medium, because I always want to decide for myself.
Apparently, this is one of those types of games you really have to "feel" to get past all the crazy colors and constant action. Also it seems the tutorial is not especially well-done, and doesn't adequately explain things for the beginner. But those who've really delved into SG are singing its praises.
I'm getting a 360 very soon, and this game is now firmly on my DL list. The cool thing about XBLA is even if I don't really end up liking the game much, I'm only out five bucks.

durkada has it in my opinion.
fun game, but I wish I could see (or as the little how to play section says, use audio hints). All I hear is loud techno beats. I want to like the game, I do like the game, I wouldn't say I love it. I get hit by silent bullets out of no where, even after dieing, I am left scratching my head trying to figure out what it is I was hit by.
was it a flower? Was it a bullet? Was it just random time to die for no apparent reason because the game is on acid? I go with the latter. I don't even BOTHER trying to teach anyone else how to play... they get scared of how fast paced and psychadelic Lumines Live gets...
they think I'm just on crack, doodling around in some creepy tube of LSD, pushing random buttons.
and it's NOT a giraffe... duh, it's a SPACE giraffe.
...
"so what's that"
"it's her sword"
"looks like a ball to me"
"It's her sword!"
"it's a ball"
"IT'S A SWORD GOD DAMN IT!"
// when creating a visual representation for the code I had already written for my video game... there was no sword, I used a sphere prim... it's a fucking sword!

I'm sorry - I love shooters in general but this one is not for me. Its nearly impossible to tell whats going on most of the time. I played through the tutorial levels in the demo and was left with a headache (not nearly as bad as the motion sickness from the Marathon demo though! UGH!)
That said, its cool that indie games like this are coming out for XBLA.
I'll stick with Einhander for now...
