Why Haven't We Gotten a Remake of the OG Legend of Zelda?

I mean seriously. It's one of the best games on the NES, but at the same time one of the most primitive looking games on the NES. And here we are 25+ years later and we still haven't gotten a remake. Why Nintendo? We've gotten Mario remakes, Metroid remakes, Donkey Kong updates, and even a Goldeneye remake. The Zelda series itself has gotten remakes in Link to the Past, Link's Awakening, and the recent Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D.

But the original Legend of Zelda is the game in the NES's library that both deserves a remake and truly needs a remake done for it. They could release it in a collection, via Virtual Console, and/or on DS/3DS. I for one would absolutely LOVE to play this masterpiece with completely redone 2D SNES/GBA-type graphics and some extras thrown in.

There's always BS-Zelda for the graphical upgrade.

I wouldn't mind paying for a copy of that if Nintendo saw fit to put it on the Wii or something.

That looks great! I was thinking more along the lines of Link to the Past style graphics, but I'd be happy with that. Let's see it released on Virtual Console.
