Hey guys. I'm looking for more rpg's with a specific style in the art direction.
I'm looking for games that have 3D character models that you move around on backgrounds that are still images. Games kinda like Chrono Cross and the PS1 FF's. Other than these games I'm drawing a complete blank. Anyone know of other titles that have this art direction?
Thanks.
edit:
Oh and I really don't care what system. It can be anything, really.

I'm looking for RPG's with pre-rendered backgrounds.

So, you want games with pre-rendered backgrounds:

Ok, so you basically want 3D characters on prerendered backgrounds?
You know, I honestly can't think of any beyond Chrono Cross. They tend to be either all 2D or all 3D in that generation, or if they combine the two, they favor 2D sprites and 3D backgrounds.

I dunno, I was thinking the opposite honestly, "most" were like that... but then I drew a blank.Ack wrote:Ok, so you basically want 3D characters on prerendered backgrounds?

Legend of Dragoon was that style though I'm pretty positive. There's plenty of survival horror games with this style, but as for RPG's I'm not sure. I'm sure there's a ton on the PC I don't know about though.
Star Ocean 2 certainly had some backdrops for towns and such as well, though it's more of a mix than Chrono Cross and the FF's.

I thought of that one too, but the world map of that game is in 3D. I wonder if a mix like that would be ok.Xeogred wrote:Legend of Dragoon was that style though I'm pretty positive. Alone in the Dark 2 & 3 (Multi)
Baten Kaitos Origins (GC)
FF7, FF8, FF9 (PS1)
Grim Fandango (PC)
Parasite Eve (PS1)
Relentless: Twinsen's Adventure & Twinsen's Odyssey (PC)
The Legend of Dragoon (PS1)
Some of the Silent Hill/Resident Evil games use the style..and some others I'm sure, but it's definitely not as common as one might think.

How was Xenogears done? I can't remember if it fits this description or not.

Yes, pre-rendered backgrounds. I knew there was a word for it but I couldn't think of it.
Thanks.
Thanks.

I know most survival horror games have this design style but I'm looking for just your average turn-based rpg gameplay.SuperAnthony64 wrote:Parasite Eve
