RGB cable woes with SNES
Hiya, second topic in one day... *cough* Anyway. My issue is, I suspect, due to a low quality cable. I've got the SNES hooked up to my telly via RGB SCART and the picture is reasonably sound, save for a moire effect on solid colour. A small annoyance. But the sound is where it gets truly irritating. The brighter the screen, the louder an underlying buzz occurs. I saw this problem elsewhere described as crosstalk and improperly shielded cabling, but I'm not sure... If anyone knows where in the UK I could get a GOOD cable that would be grand.
Of course, this is if it's actually the cable.

I'd try a friends TV before buying a new cable, just to humor yourself.

Need FreeMCboot? I'll install it on your PS2 Memory Card for free if you cover postage both ways.
Consoles: I have too much stuff
Arcade: No seriously, I have too much stuff. Someone grab a shovel and dig me out of my basement.

This is just a fact of life I'm afraid. I have a very good quality SCART cable for SNES and yeah it produces a buzz unless you mute the audio. The price you pay for RGB.

I know in Japan they released an official RGB cable; do you have that one?
(FC, AVFC, NES, SFC x2, SNES, N64, GC x2, Wii x2)*(G&W x7, GB, GBpocket, GBASP, DS-L x2)
(GEN, SS x3, DC x3)*(PCE-Duo)*(Xbox:500GB)*(NGCDZ, NGPC)*(PS1, PStwo, PS3:160GB, PSP.3K)

Its unshielded cables.
I worked around this by breaking out the audio direct from the console. I now have 2 phono/RCA jacks on the console that is audio only.
Never send the audio down the same cable as the video = problem worked around

Yeah upon further investigating my cable, that's indeed what's wrong with it. It's both not shielded or insulated. you need a cable that's both. You can either buy a heavy duty Nintendo SCART cable or desolder both ends of yours and then replace the whole cable part with a quality VGA cable for example.
That's what I plan on doing. Remember that Japan SCART is very different from Euro SCART so you can't simply import the Japanese one!

Is a compromise getting a cable with a breakout box a little down the SCART cable? I'm not handy with modding things... Only thing though, I have a suspicion that my TV will be looking for SCART audio and not for an external audio source. Not entirely sure though, but I doubt with the RCA cables that it'll be an automatic transition. Hrm.

Re: RGB cable woes with SNES
I only followed about half of that, but your problem is that the SCART to SNES cable you have is not insulated or shielded, thus the audio interference. You need a QUALITY cable. I'm going to mod mine with an old VGA cable; results should be good.
Re: RGB cable woes with SNES
It appears I have the same problem with this cable: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Super-Nintendo- ... 2eb81fca1c
The other cables I have from this seller don't have the buzzing issue. It's very loud during bright portions of games, like when a menu screen pops up, and it greatly effects the enjoyment of playing.
If anyone here has a North American RGB SCART cable for SNES that doesn't have this issue can you point me to where you bought it from (if you didn't mod it yourself)?

I don't think this exists. Do you mean a European RGB Scart SNES cable? If so, I bought one off of Ebay and it works great. Sorry, but it's been years and I have no idea who I bought it from.
