planning on picking up 360 for the rpgs mainly

Post by JC48573 »

Update: Finally bought me a 360 4gb with kinect sensor and game for 185 dollars. I don't think I will be needing Kinect, so I will end up selling them.

How are these games?

Infinite Undiscovery, Tales of Vesperia, Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon, Last Remnant

feel free to mention any rpg i've missed

Tales of Vesperia is pretty good, solid RPG all around. Lost Odyssey is where it's at though. After only watching a friend play it for a few hours, I feel safe saying that it's probably the best JRPG this gen.

There's also Spectral Force 3 and the incoming The Witcher 2. There used to be a lot more 360-exclusive RPGs but most of them went over to PS3.

I don't play too many rpg's, but I'd recommend Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas if you can't play them on pc.
Black DSi, Pink GBC, Softmodded Wii, Softmodded Fat Ps2, Black Gamecube, Xbox, Dreamcast, Ps1 Slim, Atomic Purple GBC, Onyx GBA SP, Gears of War 3 Edition Xbox 360 Slim, PSP 3000, NES.

Infinite Undiscovery,
Never played, heard terrible things.
Tales of Vesperia,
Solid Tales title. If you like tales you'll like it. If you don't you won't.
Lost Odyssey,
This is a great JRPG. Long storyline, believable developments, and a traditional combat system. If you liked the Final Fantasies of the past you'll like this.
Blue Dragon,
This is another good JRPG. It does suffer from a feeling early on that you've lost sight of your original goal, but you do pick it up again later and stick with it pretty well from then on. It plays more like a Dragon Quest, with a class system that's very similar to the class systems in the later DQ games. It's also got the Akira Toriyama character and monster designs.
Last Remnant
I played the PC demo and didn't like it, but some of that was due to the port being shoddy. I've heard bad things about it's technical performance (bad framerates and such).
feel free to mention any rpg i've missed
There's Star Ocean: The Last Hope, which is decent. The combat system is good, several of the characters can be annoying. And the english dub doesn't do it any favors. If you have a PS3 I'd recommend getting it there, instead, because the JP voice actors are much better.

There's also Eternal Sonata, which is the most colorful game you'll play this generation not on a Nintendo platform. It's got a fun battle system (turn based, but a turn is time limited) and a decent story; you're playing in the fevered dream world of Chopin as he's on his deathbed. The PS3 port includes additional characters and the existing ones are rebalanced.

It sounds like you need to play Persona 3 FES and Persona 4. Personally, I found these games much more enjoyable.

I've heard nothing but good things about them but I just can't get into the SMT games. I have trouble looking past the super anime high school teenager thing. Maybe someday I'll give one of them an honest shot.

I thought Lost Odyssey was fantastic. Definitely worth picking up if you're looking for JRPGs.

If you're thinking about Lost Odyssey, here's a quick couple paragraphs I wrote up about the game right when I finished my first play through.

I second brunoafh's opinion that it was the best JRPG this generation.

I'd count those as last generation. Both are fantastic, though, and definitely better than Lost Odyssey.
