Untypical turn-based RPGs.

Post by Balasubbie »

Hey kids, I've got a craving on me for something turn-based. Is there anything out there that'd carry the style of the likes of the Mother series or even something that doesn't possess an overly Tolkienesque sense of aesthetics?

Are you asking for turn-based RPGs that don't take place in a medieval/fantasy setting?

DemiKids for GBA is basically a cutesy version of the Shin Megami Tensei games. It looks like if you took a Persona and de-made it to look/feel like Earthbound with a bit of Pokemon.

The Paper Mario (N64, Gamecube) or Mario & Luigi (GBA, DS) games are a good choice.

If you're simply looking for something that isn't high fantasy...the original Fallout games maybe? They use a hex-grid, turn-based system.

You just dropped smt, earthbound, AND pokemon in a game description. How could I possibly not buy it now?

there's two games, Light and Dark. Both tell different sides to a single story. Interesting, and certainly overlooked within the SMT universe it seems.

Good call. Or even go back further and play Wasteland. It plays a lot like a JRPG, but is western made and set in a post apocalyptic wasteland like Fallout.
