AV Switch

Well I just discovered the existence of this little marvel that I'm sure you all already know about. The AV Switcher, meaning I'd be able to stop going through the pains of switching cords every time I want to play another console, a godsend. I was wondering which you guys used, and affordable choices for hooking up 4/5 consoles at once. I searched the forums and didn't see anything about it.

I have used them for years, standard 3 switch and 4 switch composite ones go for less than $10 at dollar tree style stores, once you start needing S-Video and Component they start to jump up in price quite a lot.

I've used nothing but cheap ones and they seem to do a great job. Years ago, when the PS2 first came out, I bought a 4 composite switch box at K-Mart. The aesthetics match the PS2, I've seen a few people here have one in pics they posted of their setups. It must have been $15 tops and it still works great.

edit: Wow, CRT has a link for this one in his guide. I can't believe you can still find it for sale. The one linked is a 5-way switch, I only have a four. I thought it was awesome that it has labels for cables console and other devices, including Dreamcast and N64.

Just a few years ago, I bought this one in Wal-Mart for something like $20...



I mainly bought it because it has front component ports which I wanted so I could easily plug my PSP in. Aside from that, it automatically switches to a device when you power it on (although you can manually select a device as well). It does composite, S-Video *or* component. You can use it for multiple input types, but you'd have to split the audio out (only has one audio out for all three types) but this is common with the cheaper switch boxes.

I just read some reviews on Amazon and some complain that it doesn't do HD well. I cannot comment on that because I've only used it for my Wii, DVD player and PSP (all via component).

Anyway, the auto switch is the way to go. I would recommend looking for this feature when selecting a switch box for yourself.

I would like to see ones with many more inputs. Like 8.

I use radio shack ones. They are no longer available but work perfectly. I currently have two daisy chained together and just found a third at a goodwill.

Should in theory allow for 13 systems to be hooked up and switched automatically.

I used to have one of those auto-switching radio shack ones... actually I still do, but it doesn't work anymore.

Bummer, I have one that my brother bought forever ago and it still works great. I managed to find a brand new one sitting in a local store for $10.

It's probably fixable, but I haven't had much need for a switchbox lately so I haven't bothered. 'Sides I have at least two more manual ones.

Well you bought it from Radio Shack, so it's no wonder it broke.
