The Shining Series (post-Sega)
The Shining Series (post-Sega)
I'm a pretty big fan of the Shining games (who isn't?), but lately I've been wondering if the post-Sega ones are any good? Like the PS2 ones and the handheld (GBA, DS) ones. Has anyone played these? I have no idea what to expect with them but I have a hunch they're probably pretty bad.
Re: The Shining Series (post-Sega)
I've played Shining Force II and Shining Soul for the GBA so don't put too much stock into what I say. I think that Shining Soul is okay if you're just looking for a time sink that doesn't require much effort. The levels are long and the enemies (as far as I've played, at least) are real push overs.

I think you mean the post-Camelot ones. Camelot created the fine entries of Shining Force 1-3, the Gaidens, Holy Ark, Wisdom, and in the Darkness. Then they left and Sega has been running the franchise into the ground. Instead of this Mario & Sonic at the Olympics let's just get Sega to let Camelot make a good Shining game again.

Yes I mean the post-Camelot ones. I figured "post-Sega" would be more identifiable though.
So I take it you think the post-Camelot games are pretty bad?

Yes, I do. And the problem with post-Sega is that Sega still owns the right to the Shining series, and keeps authorizing games under it.brunoafh wrote:Yes I mean the post-Camelot ones. I figured "post-Sega" would be more identifiable though.

I'm not sure if Camelot made the GBA remake of Shining Force 1, but that was pretty solid. I haven't played any other ones >>

Does Nintendo actually own Camelot now? I know the Golden Sun games are Nintendo exclusives, but I'm curious if it's a Rareware-Nintendo situation or just because Camelot decides to release stuff on Nintendo consoles cause they want to.
Re: The Shining Series (post-Sega)
After Sega left Camelot high and dry with Shining Force 3 by focusing on the Dreamcast, Camelot formed a partnership with Nintendo, they are now a 2nd party developer for Nintendo.Anayo wrote:Does Nintendo actually own Camelot now? Re: The Shining Series (post-Sega)
The PS2 games look kind of awful. Shining Feather seems... okay... but a little flashy and anime-ish for a Shining game. I know the Shining games have always had an anime style but it's a little over the top here. Guess I'll just have to stick to the classics.
