El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron

El Shaddai was born from the minds of men who helped to create Devil May Cry, Okami, Viewtiful Joe, Final Fantasy 8, Cowboy Bebop and Ghost in the Shell S.A.C. Needless to say, all of these influences are present in the game. This is one trippy, gorgeous, wild ride.

If more people understood just what the hell was going on in El Shaddai, it would likely be much more controversial. It’s based directly on the Old Testament’s “Book of Enoch” and features the voice of god speaking directly with the man himself via cell phone while dressed as a Japanese hipster.

This game looks incredibly cool. I have no idea how it slipped under my radar. It's already out overseas, and the word is the HK version has English subs. A localization is confirmed for Q3 this year. I think there's a demo up on XBL too.

This was one of my favorites shown at E3 last year. I love the look, there is strong talent behind it, and the semi-heretical religious-fused storyline sounds fascinating. I wish it was coming out for PC since I don't have a current gen console.

I found out about this from a Game Informer a couple months back. I've seen gameplay, and though the combat isn't as deep as DMC, it looks fun, and the game looks downright gorgeous.

It seems like forever since I saw the first announcement, but I have not lost interest since!

I just finished the psn demo and while the visuals are fantastic, they cause some serious platforming issues. What was a pit and what was a platform?

Oh there's a PSN demo up? Gonna have to check it out, I thought the demo was only on XBL.

Dogma reference FTW!

Also, I played it and it's pretty great. It's totally got a Devil May Cry feel but mixed with Prince of Persia, mostly a mix of the original and Sands of Time.

I just played the demo too. The combat feels very flat to me but the visuals and presentation make this pretty much a guaranteed buy for me. It's definitely not as bad as I heard it was. I was pleased to see the game is pretty challenging on normal mode too. Hopefully there's a bit more to the combat in the full version of the game though.

edit: Two things I'm really disliking are how forgiving the platforming is and how you can basically revive yourself after you die during combat. I suppose the forgiving platforming can be chalked up to game design, but why let us "fail" at all if there's absolutely no punishment? The reviving after dying in combat thing is really lame all around though.
