Planning to Interview Retro Game Store

Post by (-_-) »

So for my film class our first group project is a documentary. After some brainstorming, and very little pushing from me... we have decided to interview a local Retro Game shop. They are one of the more successful and active in the community and tomorrow we are going to go talk to them to see if they are up for it.

I wanted to look to the Racketboy community for suggestions on any interesting questions for them as well as any that should be avoided. Also any insight on how to conduct a good interview would be welcome!

Ask them how they keep up with correct game prices.

Racket has done a few of these, you could watch those for inspiration.

I think sourcing and pricing games is an important issue with and retailer of collectables since they have to compete with the internet where both the seller and the buyer can get better deals.

Other than that I would be interested in the ages of the shop's customers, are they collectors themselves, what do they do to try any create a sense of community in the shop, whats the rarest game they have for sale etc

The age one is definitely an interesting one. I wonder how often they see new faces that keep coming back as well.

WOOOOT!!! He happily agreed! I also found out that they are having a grand opening of their second location tomorrow so we're going to try and head down there and catch that. To anyone who is interested, the store is Game Deals located in New Westminister, BC.

Sweet! I love that shop. I found it last year (the giant NES controller is hard to miss) and bought Warlocked, a CIB Atari 2600 Trackball, and a couple of NES games my friend asked me to keep an eye out for. While chatting with Ray, I mentioned Racketboy's charity auction and he said they were doing a charity thing of their own. I wish I was able to attend the get-together or at least buy more stuff but I was just passing through and have to travel light. It's pretty rare that I meet someone in person who has a passion for retro games like I do. I noticed the prices are pretty on-par so Jen definitely knows her stuff. I'm looking forward to the video.
I'd like to suggest some questions about their events, the attendance and how their community interaction helps with their business. I have to say, if I was local I'd attend every one. I'm not on facebook, but Ray was saying that their online presence is a benefit so a conversation about that might make a good topic.

Hey, that looks like the place the Happy Console Gamer is always talking about.

It is! He did an interview with the owner as well, but it was more like a talkshow, and he talked significantly more than Brian did. We want to do it in a way that we are not in the footage at all, and it's Brian giving his story rather then us prodding answers out of him.

So to anyone who cares, I finally got my groupmate to colour correct our final video. Sadly it's over corrected, so it's going to have to go back into backlog to get fixed. Till then this one will have to do.
