The title says it all. I'm a little disappointed that the fourth game was not included. Hopefully, it will make a trip stateside.

Re: Dragon Quest Collection Announced
I like that they went an extra mile than Nintendo (i.e. they've included NES *AND* SNES versions of the games). Nintendo's mistake (in my opinion) was not including World in their collection (come on, All-Stars + World is an actual cartridge, would it have been so hard to choose it over the non World one?), much as the mistake here is not including IV.
What I'd like to see in these collections is some real love. Aka what's in the link, Sega localizing Monster World IV. Heck yeah! That's something that many Sega fans will truly appreciate, even if it is only a digital download.
Just giving me a few games on a disc that I could emulate myself for the same experience isn't really celebrating them in my opinion. Where's the love? The interviews, the commentary, artwork, anything? How cool would it be to have a commentary track for Super Mario Bros. that you could turn on and off while playing, like a DVD? Get some insight into why they did the things that they did. The Dragon Quest games could certainly use some official translation cleanup, but the same thing applies. Give us some extras that celebrate the games -- I don't think the games themselves on a disc is enough.
Just my two cents.

Well, that's cool that they're doing it, but I'm hard pressed to care, if only because I've never cared for the franchise.
Honestly though, I won't be surprised at all if it never releases outside of Japan. I hope it does for the fans, it should, but I won't be surprised if it doesn't.
Personally I'm a lot more excited about that Sega Vintage Collection. Monster World IV? Awesome. Thanks for linking that Irixith.

I'm confused, will the Vintage Collection be a physical release?CFFJR wrote:Well, that's cool that they're doing it, but I'm hard pressed to care, if only because I've never cared for the franchise.

Re: Dragon Quest Collection Announced
The only DQ title I've ever played was Dragon Warrior for the NES. As a kid I thought Final Fantasy (NES) was so much better, and that just kind of stuck with me, and I never touched any of the other games.

Its a digital release, but it sounds to me that if you buy the collection, you get all of those games in one download.noiseredux wrote:I'm confused, will the Vintage Collection be a physical release?CFFJR wrote:Well, that's cool that they're doing it, but I'm hard pressed to care, if only because I've never cared for the franchise.

I could be misunderstanding the article, but releasing them individually wouldn't make sense since a handful of those games has already been released digitally.

The fourth game wasn't included because it was in the Zenethia trilogy, as opposed to the Loto trilogy of the original three.Bradtemple87 wrote:The title says it all. I'm a little disappointed that the fourth game was not included. Hopefully, it will make a trip stateside.

I would actually be surprised if it did not get a North American release. The DQ series has gotten a stronger fan base albeit it is still pretty minuscule compared to your Final Fantasy's and other big-to-do games.CFFJR wrote:Honestly though, I won't be surprised at all if it never releases outside of Japan. If this comes stateside I'll probably get it. I'd like to play the older games without having to worry about a dead battery in the cartridges.
