I got this xbox for pretty cheap. Figured it was a broken xbox and was going to trade it in for some store credit but when I turned it on it was blinking the UnleashX logo. That seems to be all it'll do. I put an xbox game in the drive and it sounded like it was spinning up but didn't quite sound right.. and didn't play the game.
If I replaced the drive (which I'm assuming is bad) what could be done to fix this modded system? I really know nothing about modded systems or what different mod chips do. I assume people play burned games? Most i've seen run emulators.
UnleashX is a softmod. There's probably no modchip installed (but there could be, I guess). The drive is a different issue all together. Since the system is modded though, you can just load games and boot them from the HDD if you really wanted to (check to see how big the HDD is).

Thanks for the info.
I opened up the system and it appears to have a DUO X2 chip wired in there. It has a 300gb seagate hard drive which I assume wasn't standard equipment at the time of the Xbox systems.
Any clues as to why it could be flashing that logo screen?
not sure you need to wipe the HDD and start fresh. i had a similar if not the same problem a few years back. the unleash X splash screen would continually loop. I didn't have to wipe the drive to resolve the issue, but had to delete or modify a save file somewhere. I'm sorry i can't remember, but you can probably find your fix here:
It's a thread devoted to Unleash X among others things XBOX related. Search for unleashx splash screen looping and you should find your fix. Hope that's it and you get it working again, cheers
Yeah, I should have suggested you browse the Scenyx forums actually. Also check out the AfterDawn forums. If your problem is a common one, you'll no doubt find the fix at one of those forums.
Thanks for the suggestions. There was some helpful info there. I'm going to try a cross over cable to the system to see if I can get access to some potentially corrupted files on the hard drive or possibly connect the hard drive directly to my computer for access. Hopefully that'll resolve my boot loop problem.
Google and download something called Frosty's Xbox rescue disc. I have an Xbox with a softmod, and after installing an emulator the system would just freeze at the splash screen on start up every time. I used Frosty's disc to boot and was able to browse the hard drive and delete the emulator I just installed. Restarted the console without the disc in there and it booted up like normal.
