Play composite games on VGA monitor

Post by Dr_Subtitles »

i didn't really know where to post this so i just put it here. how to i play all the classic consoles that use composite on a vga monitor? i have had no luck on ebay finding only vga to composite but what i want is the other way around. the best thing is possibly a box that you plug in composite/svideo and outputs vga. but a cable is fine. if anyone knows of any of these please help me out.

Thats ODDyssey, Was thinking of the RCA TV
You might want to reword the RCA to composite to avoid confusion. RCA jacks are also used for audio. There are numerous VGA upscalers, but with composite as the source not a great pic. As much as possible try to get the maximum of each console such as SVideo for the PS1 and N64.

Conversion cables alone will not work, invest in the VGA Upscaler. A better route might be a used HD CRT from a Thrift Store. Most give a great pic for the older consoles.

You want something like this. I just chose Monoprice because their stuff happens to be very fairly priced, you might find something like it elsewhere/more convenient for you.

Deal Extreme has a few. I got this one. It works on every monitor I tried it on, but it's scaling is just blur and I needed a power plug converter to plug it into the wall. There isn't any noticeable lag and the price is right.

If you want more control over how the image looks, you co do more with a video capture card. There are several programs and filters you can use to process the image in real time with very little lag (depending on your computer) and display it full screen.

I've used a few of them ranging from very good to very crap. Be sure to read customer reviews of any VGA box you buy first (and make sure you get it from a reputable source).
