What is your favorite console controller?

Post by racketboy »

Being a big fighting fan, I enjoy the 6-button goodness of the Sega Saturn's controllers. I also enjoy the Dreamcast's "official" Agetec arcade stick.

What are your favorites?

i agree that the sega saturn controller is one of the best, and THE best for fighting games! however, i think the super nes controller is equally good overall. so good that it's pretty much inspired every video game controller that came out afterwards!

i think im with gritty the supernes controller was one of the finest but i got to say the sony controller is pretty good but i like the dreamcast controller it fits in my hand perfectly the only downfall of that controller was it didnt have the six buttons in line that would have been a great achievement!!!!!!

yeah, I like the fit of the DC's controller as well.
But the 4-button layout is a pain for fighters. Marvel vs. Capcom was one of the first games I bought for the system and it just felt weird having to use the trigger buttons.
The Gamecube's controller is even worse for fighters -- but at least it doesn't have that many fighters on the system.
The DC is one of the best systems for fighters -- right up there with the Saturn, Neo-Geo, and PS2

I have an answer for you, the 3D-Control Pad. I used to use this baby to kick all my friends asses in Street Fighter. Too bad it had those horrible trigger's, but I dealt with it. It basically was just a black DC pad with 2 more buttons, which would've made it a perfect design for the DC.

very true.
the only bad thing about that controller is you had to switch between the digital and analoge controlls. You couldn't use both at the same time.

I like the hudge fat old Microsoft Side Winder pads, I moded one to fit my PS2. The D-Pad is nice and smooth so you don't wear down your thumb busting off combos, it is useless for anything but fighters and emulation though.

I do like the 3D saturn pad, but the thumb thinggy just isn't as silky smooth as the Sidewinder. I do still use my big clukie white saturn 3D pad, it's a white one from japan though, so it has kind of a nice flash to it if anyone knows anything about saturns is over at my house.

The Saturn's controller was great for most of the games on the system. I didn't like the DC controller much, I would have preferred if it was similar to the Saturn's analogue pad.
