It seems like I've played games that don't know how to look at VMUs in the second controller port. If you don't have the VMU you want in the 1P controller, you can't save or load your game. Can anyone confirm this?
EDIT: I'm not talking about the Rumble slot. I'm talking about a VMU plugged into the 2/3/4P controller port.
Are some Dreamcast games not capable of reading the 2nd VMU?

This seems to be true. Just tried Cannon Spike and it didn't detect either VMU in the 2P slot.

Maybe the game is only expecting there to be a rumble pack in slot #2.

Have you tried plugging in a second controller?

I don't know which ones, but I do remember a few games would only work with a memory card save only when the controller is in the 1st player port. Never tried two memory cards in a single controller, except when transferring game saves around. After a long game run, would hate any risk of losing data, besides the Mad Katz light up Puru pack is always plugged in the bottom slot of the controller.
I hated the way Skies of Arcadia would change my memory card root icon. It would wipe out the default colors I set based on the memory card color. House of the Dead would pause and allow a hot swap from puru pack to memory card for the single slot lightguns. Most games do allow that hot swap.

Yeah, I'm playing with the 1P controller and trying to save/load onto VMUs in the controller plugged in to the 2P slot.Hobie-wan wrote:Maybe the game is only expecting there to be a rumble pack in slot #2.
