Mortal Kombat 9 Demo Impressions?

Post by Weekend_Warrior »

So the demo came out on PSN earlier this week for the Playstation Plus subscribers...

Would anyone like to share their impressions so far of the game?

Does it play and/or feel a lot like the classic MK games of yesteryear??

I'm also curious. I don't feel Plus is worth the price of admission.

Well, it's out for regular users now. I've already got it installed, but haven't tried it. I'm not an MK fan, but I heard it was pretty fun, so I'll wait for my neighbor, who's an MK fan, to get here so I can see what he thinks.

I remember reading that 7k had played it and that it was really good but I can't seem to find the post.

I absolutely can not get enough of the demo. Anyone can try it now without being a Plus member, so it's worth downloading to check out. I haven't anticipated a new game coming out this much in a long time. The gore is back, the control feels smooth, and it's an easy pick up and play while easily being able to figure out some special moves. It feels like Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe in terms of control, but characters have been tweaked. Sub-zero's tombstone teleport has been removed to help him be less overpowered for instance. Also, the fatalities are in the move list and very fun.

the only gripe i have with the MK now is the character standing stance.

I think they use to look alot cooler back in MK2, Mk3 , aka back int eh 2d era.

But now they are slump down and look more like professional wrestler stance than martial masters ,.

It's pretty fun, but I won't be rushing out to get it on release. It uses the same engine as the DC Universe game (but it's tweaked), so if you played that you pretty much know what to expect. The fatalities are nice. Oh, and for some reason they gave Scorpion swords. I thought that was tacky.

agreed 100%

Its nice but not the series refresh ala SF4 I was looking for. The backgrounds are decent, some better than others so far. Fatalities are awseome and X-Ray moves look cool. The overall presentation just seems to be lacking somehow. Maybe its just a really old build in the demo.

I won't rush out to buy it either, but I gotta say my friend and I are having lots of fun with the demo. And I'm not even an MK fan.

I mostly play as Johnny Cage and do ball busters throughout the whole round.
