My girlfriend surprised me yesterday with a 160 GB PS3 that had Killzone 3 bundled in with it. Hooray for me! I didn't even ask for it, she just knows that I love gaming and didn't have a PS3. Tax returns FTW!
I've always been a 360 guy, so I've actually never really followed anything that had to do with the PS3. I know what some of the bigger exclusive games are, but I really could use some help when it comes to finding out about the hidden gems on the console, how it interacts with my PSP, which PSN games are worth grabbing, figuring out which games have active online communities, etc.
I already have Killzone 3, since it came bundled with the system, but I don't really know much about it other than the fact that its a first person shooter. I'm not really sure if I should play the first two Killzone's first. I ordered Little Big Planet bundled in with a Dualshock 3 from Amazon today, due mainly to the fact that I love platformers, and heard the words "Little Big Planet" every time I turned around back when it came out. I'm also looking into picking up Resistance: Fall of Man and Uncharted: Drake's Fortune as well, just because those are the other two franchises that I've heard people talk about in the past. Not really sure what else I should be looking into getting.
I know this topic is a bit tiresome, but I value the opinion of my peers here, and didn't want to just Google a bunch of "Top 25 PS3 Games" lists. Anyone want to help me out and give me a run through of my shiny new console, and just what it can do?
Anyone want to help out a complete PS3 noob?

For PSN games, PixelJunk series and Shatter are absolute musts. Plenty of other great stuff on PSN as well, but those are the biggest I can think of that an X360 user would have missed.

I'd recommend the Motorstorm series. They are fun offroad racing games but are really hard. I'd recommend Resistance 2 as well because I can't think of anything similar from the top of my head that is on 360.

You definitely do not have to play the other two Killzones. They really offer nothing to you that Killzone 3 doesn't so unless you end up loving Killzone 3 enough that you absolutely must play something that plays the same then just don't worry about them.
Past that I implore you to try Metal Gear Solid 4 if you have any interest in shooters, stealth games, or both. And if you have any interest in RPGs then you have to try out Demon's Souls.
