Problem with Modchip #2

Post by dark79 »

I connected the chip the normal way and the games load, FMV plays, and sound effects play, but background music does not. I hear a couple of hisses, pops, and static, and then nothing. Games play fine though but I'd like it to work 100%.

A+B method won't work.

This is a Model 2 (32-pin) btw. I have a 64-pin I might try out, but if anyone can help, it'd be appreciated.

Update: Tried installing on a Model 2 - 64-pin using the A+B method. Games load with background music, but right before the game starts I get some awful feedback/noise (same as with the 32-pin but with background music working).

Pretty sure it's the chip. I even tried changing out the wires (which fixed my last modchip) but to no avail.

It most likely is the media you are using or the burn speed, if it boots up, the chip is doing its job

Exactly. If the game boots, the chip is working.
I recommend experimenting with different games and media.

Forgot to mention that this was tested with non-burned games as well ;)

Daytona USA : No "Daytooooooonaaaaa!" at startup
Sega Rally JPN: No music during "Press Start" screen - heavy hissing and popping ;)

Both of these are originals.

Burned games do boot up and play but have the same problem as originals.

Removed the mod, and the background music comes back and the static goes away (on the originals anyway).

EDIT: When I first put the chip in, it did produce a couple of pops from the speaker but played perfectly. After about 5 min though, it gave me the current problem. Don't know if the chip blew up or what. I'll probably order several on my next order in the next day or two since I have 3 region modded Saturns and so I can have better odds of getting at least one working chip, but if there's an easy fix that anyone knows of for this one (outside of getting a replacement) I thought it was worth asking around.

Already did. Tried it in a 32-pin and a 64-pin both Model2. I'm actually quite happy that it worked in the 64-pin even though it gave the same static noise - gives me hope that it can be modchipped as well.

I have one other 64-pin that's not region modded that I can try it on, but I don't think the region mod is the issue as it's nothing more than switching jumpers to choose the region. Will try tonight and post again.

QUICK UPDATE: I put the modchip in the non-region-modded 64-pin system and it worked fine. No static or lack of background noise. So I guess the region mod does affect the modchip? Anyone have any ideas on getting around this? I plan on region-modding that last Saturn this weekend and will see if the modchip will still work (but I'm thinking it won't).

UPDATE#2: After a few min, the modchip stopped working in that system as well =P
