Games with Japanese language option

Post by Croooow! »

I like playing games in Japanese as I like my language practice to sometimes be fun. I import games for my SNES, Saturn, and handhelds but I also like coming across North American games where you can change the language to Japanese. I know of only a few games out there but I'm sure there's more. If anyone knows of others please chime in, I'll keep a list going and see how many are out there.

SNES:
Super Metroid

N64:
Yoshi's Story

GBA:
Astro Boy: The Omega Factor

Super Smash Bros. Melee has a Japanese option if I'm not mistaken.

As in Japanese spoken dialogue or with text as well?

For voice acting:
The first Onimusha on PS2 did have it, but later series didn't have that option (at least for 2 & 3). Earlier titles of Warriors series did have JP language option, but were removed for most later releases; Kessen III does have JP option.

And its a shame that Altus didn't have JP option for its SMT series

Valkryia Chronicles on PS3 does have JP option as do the Ninja Gaiden series, SSFIV does have that as well

Either dialogue or text is fine. I heard some Nippon Ichi games have a JP option as well. Anyone know which ones?

Odin Sphere has JP voice option, Muramasa is all JP voices, so is Panzer Dragoon Saga.

The Way of the Samurai 3 has a Japanese voice option. The first two probably due as well. It helped me pick up and remember easily some basic stuff I never really practiced like おやすみなさい。 Also helps to cement some basic greetings.

Yakuza 3 & 4, you don't have a choice (for voices)! The Yakuza games aren't good if you want to practice Japanese speech anyway, unless you want to sound like a chinpira.

Dreamcast PAL Shemue 2
The best version! The game has Japanese voices with English subtitles. Not sure how well the translation is for recognizing the spoken Japanese words, but I think the voices do add to the feel of the game.
