I am currently running an Athlon X2 3800+, 3GB RAM (PC 3200), nVidia 7800GT. I am seriously thinking about upgrading to try out Starcraft II and maybe BF3 when it hits. Honestly though that is it for PC games, except for some of the things TellTale Games is doing (BttF, Jurassic Park), but those latter games don't require a drastic upgrade.
I have also been attracted to a lot of games on the PS3, namely Heavy Rain, Little Big Planet, God of War III, etc.
So, basically, it boils down to the fact that part of me feels like upgrading the PC is a bit fruitless these days. Most games are ported from consoles (though it seems BF3 is specifically being targeted at the PC) and what few exclusives like Starcraft are interesting, but I am not sure I REALLY want to take the $1000+ jump for just that.
I used to be a hardcore PC gaming enthusiast, but that really died for me about 5 years ago, just after my last upgrade. Nowadays, the consoles just seem to do a great job providing good, technically satisfying games. Plus a lot of PC games don't really seem to push the envelope tech-wise as much as they used too. I mean, the games look better than ever, but not as good as I feel they could. Epic's recent tech demo is a case in point: http://www.tomshardware.com/news/unreal ... 12324.html
But I still am seriously interested in the PC side of BF3 and Starcraft II, but I feel I will get a better bang for my buck with a PS3. Of course I could just pony up and get Panzer Dragoon Sagas, but that just seems too easy...
Upgrade PC or PS3?
Re: Upgrade PC or PS3?
I've got it all - gaming PC, 360, Wii, DS, PSP, etc.
The most recent (and final missing piece) of this generation was the addition of a PS3. Judging from my experience with it so far, I wish I'd had it earlier. It's awesome, and so many of the exclusive games worth playing are already in the greatest hits line, ripe for picking up at a budget price. I picked up:
Demon's Souls
Infamous
LittleBigPlanet
Modnation Racers
God of War III
God of War Collection
Heavy Rain
Uncharted
Uncharted 2: GOTY
..and that doesn't even include all the cool stuff available on PSN! I highly recommend it over bothering to upgrade your gaming PC -- at this point, it's a better investment with a lot of fun attached to it.

Re: Upgrade PC or PS3?
PC it sounds like the illogical choice i know, but i myself recently bought a whole new rig and to be honest its been worth every penny. Sure most new PC games suck/are clones of one another but then so are most console games. However with a PC what i didnt realise was that once i started playing some Lost Planet 2 that i would soon go back and install all my old favourites like Diablo 2 again.
In short its a lot like what everyone discovered when the first model of PS3 came out and people fell in love with PSone games again. Except a PC is infinatly backwards compatible AND has emulators.

Your PC looks like it is still usable for a lot of games. I say get a PS3.

You could still get a lot of play out of your current PC just by running around gog.com and buying some older games. PS3 has a lot of great exclusive content.
If you're willing to work a little, a PC is better than any console with the amount of stuff you can get with mods, demos, free games, online games, Steam, etc. I love my laptop and it's killed my desire for the modern consoles for the most part. PS3 has those awesome looking exclusives though.

Get the PS3. All you need is 3D Dot Game Heroes and Demon's Souls to last you a while.

Another vote for PS3 from me. I bought it instead of upgrading my PC. Haven't regretted it yet.

That is mostly what I play on my PC now. Mostly I play Sid Meier's Civil War, CS Source, BF2, SCUMM and other point and click games, etc. I also recently fired up Star Trek Elite Force II for the first time and I dug that. So, not much in the way of new games really. I also play older games via DOSbox once and awhile.Frizz.Meister wrote:In short its a lot like what everyone discovered when the first model of PS3 came out and people fell in love with PSone games again. I am leaning towards a PS3, if just for Heavy Rain. I love adventure games, and that one stands out. 3D Dot Game Heroes looks pretty sweet too.

I would also go for the PS3. The exclusives such as Heavy Rain, MGS4, Yakuza 3 and 4, God of War 3, and many more are amazing and worth it!!
