It's a sad story about how Microsoft divorced themselves from supporting the community that helped them become so popular. Kudos for him for trying to keep it going, AND playing by the book.

I'm personally pretty upset, as I've been using it for as long as I've been here. I really enjoyed seeing what the rest of you guys were playing, and luckily for me a lot of you used MGC as well.

I found a neat alternative over at http://exophase.com/gamercards/ that shows two of your gamertags, from either Steam, XBL, or PSN. It's a bit big, but the site claims to be on the verge of offering up some alternate skins soon.
