What do you consider "Retro"
I'm sure this has been discussed before, but where do you draw the line of what is retro and not. Is it 16 bit? 32/64 bit? When will games on the PS2/GC/Xbox be considered retro, if ever. Will the gamers of the 8, 16, and even 32-64 bit eras ever think the current generation (360, PS3, Wii) of consoles as retro since we never we children when they were released?
Re: What do you consider "Retro"
I think for the most part, a system can be considered retro when you can no longer buy the system new at a store. Every 6th gen system (sans PS2) is considered retro in my book.

Gamecube, PS2, and Xbox are all 10 years old now, so I guess they're retro. Even though you can still buy new PS2s and games at mainstream stores.
Re: What do you consider "Retro"
Retro for me begins at 5th gen. 6th gen will become "retro" for me in a few more years. It's hard to look at masterpieces like God Hand and SoTC and consider them retro.

Re: What do you consider "Retro"
the Ps2 still has a few games coming out for it though, right? I wouldn't consider a system retro until it doesn't have games coming out for it. But would you count homebrew releases? If so, the Dreamcast has games trickling out here and there, so you wouldnt be able to consider this retro. It seems like a pretty gray area there. oh well. good games are good games to me!

Then you couldn't call the Genesis retro because of Pier Solar, or the Atari 2600 retro because of Halo 2600.Pabstblueribbon wrote:But would you count homebrew releases? If so, the Dreamcast has games trickling out here and there, so you wouldnt be able to consider this retro.

I'd agree with Breetai's statement of everything Dreamcast and older. When the 3DS comes out, I'll include GBA on this list as well.
