Beats of Rage isn't really capable of running on a PS1. It uses a 'brute-force' method to get running rather than ultra-optimized code.

Haven't heard much of anything about homebrew gaming on the PS1. Apparently Devil Dice started out as a PS1 homebrew using Yaroze, but that's all I really know.
