I've looked over this list pretty often, but I'm still pretty curious if there's more games out there like these for the system?

Good RE clones are good in my book. Love that kind of gameplay. I've only gotten to the Dino Crisis games and loved them, Parasite Eve which was decent, and a bit of the first Fear Effect games but the controls and trial & error gameplay in that one were a little tough last I remember. Which can you guys highly recommend?
I really can't remember much of this RE-esque game I played a bit of probably more than 12 years ago, but it's one of those things that's stuck with me and I just hope I can figure out what it was someday. I think I remember the beginning of the game, or where my friend loaded his game, had some people in a sewers like area, and for some reason I want to say the characters had like colorful armor or something. I think it might have been a bit sci-fi. Also as a young kid I will say one of the main things that I remember that I think was the same game, my friend showed me one of the later bosses and it was like this half naked chick in what looked like a normal tall office building or something.
I've looked through racketboy's list and think maybe it was Martian Gothic, but I'm not sure. Maybe one of the Fear Effects too, but I don't think so. I swear the main character and a team of characters were like these red armored units or something.
More PS1 survival horrors? Also trying to remember one...

Have you only tried the RE games, Dino Crisis, Parasite Eve and, Fear Effect?
Re: More PS1 survival horrors? Also trying to remember one...
Yeah those are the only ones I've played, but I love the style (despite some complaints about the camera and controls, lol), so more games like that I'd probably enjoy.

You should play Silent Hill if you haven't already. Screw jump-scares. Psychological horror is where it's at!
Re: More PS1 survival horrors? Also trying to remember one...
Agreed with Opa Opa. You owe it to yourself to play Silent Hill. In my opinion it's the finest the genre has to offer. Alone in the Dark and Echo Night are also some of my favorites.
Re: More PS1 survival horrors? Also trying to remember one...
The original Silent Hill does sound pretty awesome. It's funny despite my love for the classic RE games, I still haven't really gotten to the Silent Hill franchise... should remedy that this year! (I have however played Fatal Frame 1-2, and absolutely love those. Among the few I'd actually call "scary" games). Totally agreed with Opa Opa, stuff like RE, Dead Space, Doom 3, whatever, aren't games that scare me at all... haha, they have some cool atmosphere though. But yeah the Fatal Frames are about the only ones I've played that made me really "think" and freaked me out.
Alone in the Dark and Echo Night look like the better ones out of that list.
No clue on my mystery game?

Do you remember anything else about the game?Ryvius wrote:No clue on my mystery game?
Where's Ack when you need him
Re: More PS1 survival horrors? Also trying to remember one...
I honestly don't think I remember anything else, haha... I'm just thinking it was definitely in the style of RE and these games, maybe it was extra Japanese with anime-esque avatars and such but maybe not.
It could be such an old jaded memory maybe I'm just mixing it up with other games or something.

Hmm...well, there's not too terribly much in the way of straight sci-fi survival horror. Martian Gothic: Unification is a possibility, but based upon what you describe, I don't believe that's the one you want. The characters wear blue jumpsuits instead of flashy armor, they wander around a martian base which has a more industrial look to it for the most part, and the people are never able to enter the same room without horribly mutating in a game over.Ryvius wrote:I really can't remember much of this RE-esque game I played a bit of probably more than 12 years ago, but it's one of those things that's stuck with me and I just hope I can figure out what it was someday. The Overblood games were 3D sci-fi survival horrors, and I'm pretty sure the lead in the second game wore a red jacket, but I don't know about colorful armor.
Oh, Dark Messiah's another possibility. It's an apocalyptic survival horror set in what was at the time the near future in which you flee from a monster in a first person view through the Tokyo sewers while interacting with the people who live down there. It was never released in the US so I can't be sure, but it's also known as Hellnight or Hell Night.
As for the half-naked boss in the city building, that made me think more of moments in Parasite Eve, but I doubt that is since you said you've played it.
I can recommend a few other titles if you're interested in survival horror on other consoles. I've actually been working a bit on a PS2 survival horror article off and on since October, but there's a lot of ground to cover there. I love horror games and even have a blog about them, but I tend not to post very often I'm afraid. I should really remedy that...
Re: More PS1 survival horrors? Also trying to remember one...
You ought to conisder Shadow Tower Abyss and Kuon. I never see these mentioned... Kuon's lack of reputation is especially alerting being that it saw US release. One of the most imaginative survival horror games I've played.Ack wrote:I've actually been working a bit on a PS2 survival horror article off and on since October, but there's a lot of ground to cover there.
