Vote for the inductees in the Art of Video Games exhibit

So the Smithsonian has apparently decided that video games are art (or at least contain them) and they've put a big poll on their website to vote on what to feature.

I like that the art museum is recognizing video games as a medium but I think their genres and eras are a little screwy.

I'm not really a fan of the gaming community as a whole deciding which games qualify as exemplary instances of art in video games, since most gamers have no idea what that even means... I AM, however, a fan of fucking TOY COMMANDER representing the "Transitional Phase" of video games.

I was okay with the choices for the most part, but I found some oddities. Why was Sonic CD the only Genesis-era Sonic game available to vote for? It is my favorite, but I'm sure it annoyed someone. And MGS3 was missing too. Along with Super Mario World 2, which should be in an art exhibit. Instead they had SMW 1.

Some of the choices really bug me too. I totally agree with Sonic CD, though that is a great game. This obviously has an American bias to it. I mean Ikaruga is only mentioned for the "Target" category when you get to era 5, and only for the 360.

Its nice to see some games get recognized, but so often I am seeing games in this list that are ports (aka Dune II on Genesis, SimCity on SNES, Rainbow Six on N64, etc.) that distract from other games on the given platform. Or bland multiplatform games get mentioned and steal the limelight from other games (e.g. Tomb Raider for Saturn instead of, oh I don't know, Guardian Heroes).

This really stems from some vary narrow and limiting categories - Action, Target, Strategy and Adventure, which really seem more aimed at earlier games and not so much anything post 1990. Its great to see video games get their due from the Smithsonian though.
