I am going to fix a PAL dreamcast for a friend of mine,he's currently on his 3rd Dreamcast, the first one wouldnt read the discs, the second one would reset every 5 minutes, and the current one,has broken controller ports
It probably is the F1 socket fuse, but i am puzzled if the PAL version needs different voltage/watt then the NTSC versions (probably more of a voltage issue)
bottom line
Can i use the same fuses as described Here?

Did he already throw out the other DCs? If not, you could just swap out the controller port board. It's pretty straightforward. That's why I kept my dead DCs around. Unfortunately for me, the two that died have the exact same dead part.
If you don't have spares, I'm not much help. You might look around online for anyone selling broken DCs for cheap, so you can salvage it for parts.
Anyhow, good luck to ya.

The fuse inside should be the same for the controller board. Once the power leaves the convertor board inside and hits the rest of the internal componenets it should be the same.

I had to repair one of my used Dreamcasts with that resistor, an easy solder job.

Re: SEGA Dreamcast blown controller ports-Questions
So, after a bit of a delay in getting the dreamcast...
i got it, though when i opened it, the fuses/resistors were already twisted, aparantly he did it before, so now, i got to solder new fuses in,
i found a guide online:
http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Repairing-S ... ort/1562/1
now i need to know
can i use the resistor they use in that NTSC USA 130 volts (dont know the voltage they use in the US) on a PAL 250 volts Dreamcast?

The power fed to the system internally once it leave the power supply should be the same. So the bits on the controller board shouldn't be any different.

Re: SEGA Dreamcast blown controller ports-Questions
fixed it, albeit temporary by connecting the 2 ends of the resistor together, still going to solder in a fuze though!
thanks!
thanks!
