Duke Nukem Forever's release will not be a Half-Life 2 moment - when the majesty of Valve's creation suddenly justified the endless delays and broken promises. But while it is old fashioned, unashamedly brash and ridiculous, and full of comically daft one-liners, it also emerges at a convenient time: as an entire genre of unwitting dinosaurs stomps around in gigantic footsteps left by Call of Duty and Halo, Duke's lewd, unapologetic one-dimensionality and lowbrow thrills are points of distinction.

I know that even if it receives humble review scores this one will be my fps of choice for 2011.
I don't give a fuck. This is and always has been a day one purchase for me. I honestly can't wait to fire it up with a few friends, get some beers in and just giggle juvenilely at it's sheer unabashed sexism and 80s/90s action film clichés. Judging from the hands-on it's going to deliver just that. You know what? That's just what I expected from Duke, and I'm glad they stuck steadfastly to their guns.
Is there such a thing as bad publicity? The fact that this game is even coming out is like the gaming world's equivalent of announcing that the loch ness monster was captured live. Even if it doesn't meet everyone's expectations, it's still going to get noticed for actually happening. I think it will do well.

My thoughts exactly. I've always held that as long as they realized what made the Duke awesome and kept that the game will be good, and it looks like that's the case.

So agreed it's not even funny. My friends and I are gonna pick this up and get drunk to play it.
A statement that the game design and mechanics are more like "old" FPS games rather than "modern" ones is the highest recommendation I could possibly hear. The old shooters were fast, fun, and to the point. The new ones have way too much trudging slowly around boring maps, looking for cover and trying to find that damn sniper that keeps killing you. If I want realistic combat punctuated with lots of waiting around, I'll join the Army, thanks. DNF sounds like exactly what I want. Time to come get some!
