Book-licensed games (if the book is new enough to need one). Not games based on movies based on books. Not games inspired by books. Not games based on manga. Not games based on comic book characters. Not games based on TV shows based on books.
So, Jurassic Park on the SNES and Genesis do not count, even though they borrow directly form the books. They are based on a movie license.
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy does count. It is based on a book, and shares the title and characters with it.
Cloud Master does not count. It was inspired by Journey to the West, but is not Journey to the West-- the game.
Bible Adventures counts. It has a bunch of ridiculous adaptations of specific Bible stories, and is named after the Bible.
The Adventures of Tom Sawyer counts. It is pretty far removed from the source material, but it's called The Adventures of Tom Sawyer.
Destiny of an Emperor does not count. It is based on a manga based on a book.
I'll count Discworld, as it is an officially licensed game.
The Black Cauldron does not count, since it's a movie license.
Current List:
Bible Adventures
Exodus
King of Kings
The Adventures of Tom Sawyer
Discworld
The Colour of Magic
Discworld 2
Discworld Noir
Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
I'm sure there are more. Others?

There was a Night Watch game. I have no idea if it follows the book, the movie, or neither. Stalker seems to only be loosely based on Roadside Picnic and the 1979 film Stalker. These are the first two that came to mind.

How about I Have No Mouth, And I Must Scream? That's the only one that comes to mind.

Derp. I even own that. It is only a short story though.BoringSupreez wrote:How about I Have No Mouth, And I Must Scream? That's the only one that comes to mind.

The Wheel of Time. I never played it or read the book, so I can't tell you much about them but It was a game based on a book series.

The Dynasty Warriors games, as well as most of Koei's games are based on the Romance of the Three Kingdoms novel, with liberties taken of course.
American McGee's Alice - Well, it's more a continuation of the book

Dante's Inferno. Although to say it's taken liberties with the source material is a wild understatement.
Re: Games based on books (excluding comic books)
Saiyuki: Journey West is a PS1 strategy RPG also based on Journey to the West.
There's actually two Dante's Inferno games. One was an 80s computer game, while the more well known version is the recent God of War clone.
And then there's Dragon Riders: Chronicles of Pern, which is based on the Dragonriders of Pern book property. There was another Pern-based game for the Atari 800 and Commodore 64, but I don't know the name.
