I love the fallout games, so when I heard that Bethesta made elder scrolls
He said gameS. There were three games before Fallout 3.
actually there were 4
but most people don't take Fallout - Brotherhood of Steel into consideration of Fallout Canon (Xbox, PS2)
on-topic, however:
I have spent about 1,000+ hours with Oblivion and it wasn't 'til about six months ago, or so that I finally gave up on it
half the time has however been spent
modding it, which has ultimately been to no avail
it's a shallow game, with a shallow world
too much emphasis on the fact that everyone should have
spoken dialogue, instead of
written as in previous entries, which narrows the conversations down to the minimum
add to that, the fact that the draw-distance is just autricious (I know this can be remedied with a mod, but that particular mod requires quite a hefty computer)
and I know that the draw-distance is "great", but do note the pop-up ruins, buildings, etc. and you'll know what I mean
as for Oblivion "standing the test of time"; I sincerely doubt it, as the game is plain generic fantasy, nothing more, nothing less
Morrowind has a
strong modding community, whom have already pushed the boundaries of what the netimmerse engine is capable of, even having greater (and better) draw-distance than Oblivion
add to that all the graphical updates and Morrowind is at least on-par with Oblivion
many people complain about the combat of Morrowind, but this has been remedied (both by myself and another person), so that the combat is more like Oblivion's
add to that
Tamriel Rebuilt which aims to recreate the whole region of Morrowind (instead of just the island) and you have one Hell of a game
I still rank Daggerfall at the top, but that is mainly due to nostalgia, since Morrowind has far surpassed it in terms of game-play
Oblivion is a casual-game, which in and of itself means no harm, but has damaged the franchise beyond repair
I have little to no hope for Skyrim, as they will narrow down the weapon-skills, etc. even further
if you truly want to
experience the Elder Scrolls series, I strongly suggest sticking to Morrowind (or downloading Daggerfall for free)
but if you want to spend hours/days/months "just playing", Oblivion is the perfect game for that
alas it's about as deep as a kiddie-pool
