I loved the GBA prequel/sequel but never played the SNES/PS1 original. Mainly because the PS1 game is so damn expensive, and I tend to only splurge on shmups. I've heard from an insider that already has a review copy that the PSP remake of Tactics Ogre is totally worth it. Apparently it's improved in almost every way you could want. So I'm tempted to pre-order through GS for $40 (cheapest PS1 copy on eBay is $80) and get the free tarot cards bonus.
Anyone else interested?

Re: Tactics Ogre PSP thread
I am interested but $40 is a lot for a game when I have a good sized back catalog right now. I haven't even touched my copy of Kartia since I bought it. So maybe after I play that and Tactics Ogre is more in the $20 range.
Re: Tactics Ogre PSP thread
I liked the GBA game so much that I'm definitively interested.

I've had a copy pre-ordered for a while now. I don't even own a PSP yet.
This game is why I'm gonna get the PSP. Tactics Ogre on PS1 is one of the best games the system has to offer for two reasons: characters and story. IMO this is one of the most engrossing games ever made.

Yet another version of this game? I wish they'd stop remaking so many games and put out original titles. I was planning on playing this game soon, but I want to play the SNES version.

Are you sure you're not mixing it up with other SquareSoft games, the Tactics Ogre series was released by Enix, which is not widely known besides their Dragon Quest games. The first Tactics Ogre was released for the Super Famicom in JP, but NEVER for SNES outside of JP.Hatta wrote:Yet another version of this game? It was later re-release for PS1 (bundle with other series) when North Americans can buy it, but it was in limited quantities, thus the high prices on ebay (can match up to Suikoden II).
But the key is that several key develops that worked on the series later jump the ship to SquareSoft and released FF: Tactics, which I heard from hardcore TO fans is a cheap imitation of TO with FF theme, with no engrossing storyline. And let's forget the FFT: Advance from here on.
So I did pre-order this last year, and hope to see if this game is better than FF: Tactics.

Aeon Genesis hacked the PS1 script into the SNES ROM. I have a PowerPak. Should be fun.

I'm looking forward to tactics ogre. IMO the tactics series is the best example of strategy rpg's. The retro revival is the only redeeming thing about the psp these days.

Let Us Cling Together is THE BEST SRPG that's ever been released in the states. I've beaten the PS1 version multiple times, but this is still day 1 for me.
Also, don't you dare disagree, or I shall strike you down with the fury of 1000 blazing infernos. Try me. I fucking love Tactics Ogre.

Enix? I'm not sure about that, I don't see that in the SNES intro anywhere. But I know it was developed by Quest, headed by Matsuno and eventually Square Soft bought them out and the Ogre Battle franchise name and has done nothing with it until now. Pretty disappointing, because Matsuno apparently has like plans for 5 more entries or something. Outside of these titles this team handled FFT, Vagrant Story, FFXII, and maybe some others, but those are ones Matsuno was involved in.skyknight wrote:Are you sure you're not mixing it up with other SquareSoft games, the Tactics Ogre series was released by Enix, which is not widely known besides their Dragon Quest games. Anyways, I like this game way more than FFT. I'm playing it myself now and pretty close to finishing it. And the more I hear about this remake, the more uninterested I am, some of the changes just sound pointless.
- Unsexing classes. Why?
- In the original here when a character dies, they're dead. That is until you get a Priest with Revivify, which can be a good 15-20 hours in or so. Instead with the remake here they're making it easier and giving you three turns to revive someone before they're completely gone, like FFT. Kind of takes away some challenge I'd say.
- I'm hearing classes level up themselves, outside of characters. And that just sounds ridiculous, so it essentially makes losing characters... not that big of a deal at all. Again, it just seems a bit dumbed down and easier for no reason.
- Monster units can have expanded classes now, that sounds kind of cool.
Sure the difficulty in the original can be tediously brutal, but I like it, and this is just another example of a remake dumbing that aspect down for no real reason, unless I'm mistaken here and there's going to be some difficulty options.
Anyways, I say just go and play the original, it's amazing.
Also for those jumping in after the GBA title, I haven't played KOL myself, but I hear it's WAY easier than LUCT here. So... be ready, lol.
