Lost save file on Super Mario RPG

I just picked this game up for the second time in my life for my girlfriend to play. She had gotten to the pirate ship. We went to play it today and only the first save file was gone. Now I was having issues loading an F-Zero cart earlier in the day I thought I had cleaned, but apparently had slipped through the cracks. In my frustration I kept switching between SMG RPG, seeing it was loading, since it was in the SNES before, then being wtf, shutting it off immediately and watching F-zero not load. In retrospect I see how this might have caused it, but could this be a sign of anything else? When I first got the game I tested the battery, and again after it lost the save, and the battery is reading 3V on my multimeter, so its good to go.

The battery can output 3V, but you need resistance on that to see how it does under load. I'd reccomend cleaning the game and replacing the battery, and then if you want, trying to restor a .sav file.



Or there is another option, the best one....super powerpak, although I believe some of the bigger games aren't supported.
