MAME/ROM help
What's up guys? I just purchased 3 dvd roms that have arcade ROMs, NES, SNES, Genesis(and 32x), GB, GB color, GBA, ROMs on them (MAME) from a seller on ioffer.com and he claims you just plug in and play. You don't have to do anything apparently. Is this possible? I'm worried about corrupt/missing files and games generally not working. I also had a bitch of a time getting the screen size correct on NES ROMS in the past, I would have to play on a small window screen and not a full acreen because when I did have it at full it would be a discolored/negative screen. I also use a PS1 joybox usb port connection to play games on my laptop and with the NES ROMs I can't set it to use the D-Pad to control just the anaolg stick which is frustrating to use on alot of NES titles. I can post a link to the page for the auction if it helps. Thanks!
I am addicted to video games, especially retro gaming from my era. I have: NES, SNES, Nintendo 64, Gamecube, Gameboy, GBA, Wii, Sega Genesis, Sega CD, Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, Xbox, and Xbox 360. I have probably over 1,000 games in total for all these systems combined. Yes, I need help and I wouldn't have it any other way! This is my passion and hey my wife still loves me!!

Downloading roms is illegal too. But the real crime here is ignorance. You can get a full set of MAME roms (ratio free) at the pleasuredome tracker. Verify that it's complete with clrmamepro if you desire (probably not necessary). Download the corresponding version of MAME. Edit your MAME configuration file to point to your new full set of roms. You are done.
All of these steps can be accomplished with a little self confidence and basic computer literacy.

Actually I didn't know. Thanks for the link. I wonder if this seller has a license to do this? I feel like crap now.

Re: MAME/ROM help
Yeah, I'm not too familiar with MAME and ROMs in general so I'm pretty much clueless with these things.
I'll look at what you listed there and hopefully I can figure out how to go about doing it myself. Thanks!

If you need help getting them up and running, just ask. It should be pretty easy even if you're a newbie.

Re: MAME/ROM help
Anyone know or recommend how many GBs I would need on external hard drive(or flash drive if possible) to store MAME and ROMs for NES, SNES, Genesis, GameBoy, GB Color, GBA, Game Gear, Sega Master System, N64, PSX, TG 16, Neo Geo, and arcade games? I also want to be able to save the progress on games and controller configuration as well. I would assume these ROM files would take up alot of space even on their own, let alone wanting to be able to save game progress & controller config?
Thanks!

Re: MAME/ROM help
Wait was the auction just a rom burning service? I don't think that is illegal. I used to do that back in the day with Neo Geo roms. You just pay someone $5 for a full set and they'd burn the disc and mail it to you. The payment was for the service and to cover shipping.
I'm not so interested in full sets anymore because I like to just get a few and actually play and enjoy them. Full sets are way too overwhelming.
